Cool old dodge came up on the local c-list. Ive seen machos and paliminos and such this one is a first. Looks like its at a salvage yard, someone should save the poor thing

I've heard that Dodge done some specialty paint schemes that were regional.  Add that one to the list.  Cool truck :2thumbs:

For god's sake, someone put that thing out of its misery.

Yep, I bet its one of those regional dealer specails..denim jeans interior w/ paint striping. I love how 70s it feels and Im digging the tuff wheel...What was once tacky is now "classic" lol

polywideblock

probably should start new thread but i really like mid 70's "street" vans ,do you think its cureable?

  and 71 GA4  383 magnum  SE

JB400

I'm sorry, there is no cure.  Bad thing is, it's contagious

F8-4life

I go nuts over the right street van, gotta be a shorty with no windows and some slots. Im a sucker for 70s stuff

nvrbdn

street vans are it. :2thumbs: i agree, no window side doors and rear doors. love the vans. :yesnod:

In all seriousness, it was the way many met there fate before they even left the lot.   It wouldn't suprise me if the truck in the ad is a lone survivor.

Btw, the body is pretty nice for Ohio. :shruggy:

polywideblock

are you inferring that dealers had to remove "package" in order to sell, aka superbirds/daytona's?

Nope.  Wing cars never crossed my mind.  However, it's not a revelation that dealers were not pounding their fists on the desk screaming, "ship me more wing cars".  :icon_smile_big:

As for the "Jean Machine",,,, just a little heat and it was "sellable" blue half ton.   Btw, the dealer likely had to take one in order to get three more Omni's.

yes i was. cruising was going strong. on the weekends we would go to san bernadino and it would take 45 minutes to get from one end of the strip to the other. that was just a normal night.

truck clubs were popping up everywhere too. it was a fun time.

Interesting truck. In '78 I wanted to but a new Dodge Diesel, but it was out of my budget. Ended buying a '74 Charger instead, which I still have.

don't know if its the same car or not, but a good guess would be it is. as even on "truck"forums the 78 jean machine is a rare breed!http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.426000114109808.88157.214118028631352&type=3 :2thumbs:Phil

In '78, no one made a diesel truck.  :scratchchin:

Thar was the pre Cummins time, but Dodge did offer a Mitsu Diesel in some of their half and three quarter ton trucks- I don't think they sold a lot, but I remember one sitting at the local dealership with "Diesel" scrawlled across the windshield.

I had to go to Mansfield yesterday so I called and left a message that I wanted to look at it. He did call back to let me know that it sold to the first guy that looked at it. He said it was a real solid old truck.

Not the same one. The drivers fender on the one in your link is full of bondo and does not have A/C where the one on craigslist does have A/C.

Never heard of one.  :scratchchin:

This is from the '78 brochure.
The parts book list's extra sound deadner for the engine compartment.
So I would hazard a guess these things were noisy.

F8-4life

Heck yea! Im glad the ol truck got sold, it deserves a better fate. hopefully it went to someone who understands its uniqueness.. and wont spray bomb it black lol.

There's actually a You Tube video of one running, it sounds neat but definately not like a Cummins!
And from what I've read, they were real dogs.  Underpowered, something like 105 HP so turbos became a popular add on.

Definitely unique, and deserves to be preserved. I hope the right type of buyer got it.

If it was a shortbed I would have been more tempted. Luckily its a longbed so I can sleep easy.
