Why is wire sized with numbers like "16" or "00"? On the left are other pages that may help with other wiring projects.  :scratchchin:

The info there is contadictory; it says "This is because each gauge is named after the number of sizing dies the wire needs to be drawn through to reach the correct diameter (for example, a 24 gauge wire is drawn through 24 different sizing dies)" which relates to each individual strand but the gauge size chart is for multi-strand wire.  :shruggy:
