For me, it probably means letting someone go, but we will keep working.

It is one way to make cuts across the board.

Lets quit the band aid fixes and pass a damn budget.   As far as I know of, it won't affect me directly.

It affects me zero percent. Government spending has gone up 17% in the past 4 years, so a 2% decrease is not even a pi$$ hole in the snow. So what's all the fuss about?

This editorial pretty much sums up my feelings....

By Howie Carr / Boston Herald

I think I've seen this "Sequester" movie before. Only it had a different title — it was called "Prop 2 1/2 Override."

O---a and his common nightwalkers in the media are trotting out the exact same scare tactics that the local teachers' unions and assorted municipal layabouts have been employing to frighten the bejesus out of taxpayers around here for decades.

It happens every spring. The schools need more money. The voters yawn. The school superintendent ups the ante and says, well, if you don't give us the extra money then the first thing we'll have to cut is the high school football team. Followed by the band. Not the third assistant associate deputy senior school superintendent making $120,000, but the football team.

Then the selectmen threaten to close a fire station. Or lay off cops. The town dump? No longer open on weekends.

The problem for the hacks is, this shakedown may work the first time, maybe even the second. But as O---a is now complaining privately, eventually the law of diminishing returns sets in. Before he embarked on this latest the-sky-is-falling campaign, perhaps Barack should have consulted with the little boy who cried wolf.

Here's how absurd these scare tactics are. Over the weekend the semi-official Associated Press breathlessly reported in a story on the National Park Service: "3,500 volunteers who provide 40,000 hours on resource management duties would be eliminated."

They're eliminating ... volunteers? How does this save money?

Listen, everybody who's on a payroll took a 2 percent pay cut Jan. 1 when the Social Security taxes went back up.

Learn to live with it, the peons in the Dreaded Private Sector were told. Two percent — big deal. But when the privileged class — the government — takes a 2 percent "cut," which isn't really a cut, it's "draconian."

Do you remember any sob stories about the terrible suffering of Josh and Mindy, the $1 million-a-year Yuppies? Imagine if they had been interviewed, and had told the reporter that because of their approximate 5 percent B----k pay cut, their kids were going to have to drop out of college, the bank was going to foreclose on their house, the repo man was coming for the BMW, etc.

Readers would have laughed. But we're supposed to tremble with fear when B----k uses the same scare tactics.

B----k is now reduced to saying that the draconian cuts may not show up immediately, which means, they won't show up, period. Because they aren't really going to happen.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

No, it does not affect me - I'm just a blue collar worker. I say cut Obama administration spending, that includes all the stooges in the while house.

Well, the only effect it's going have it what the president lets it have. Two quick examples of how he's strong-arming over it is ordering DHS to let a bunch of illegal immigrants go free and preventing a second aircraft carrier from being deployed to the Gulf. It's the same kind of crap that local politicians pull when they're trying to sell a bond measure. They say if it doesn't pass we'll have to let prisoners run wild and your house will burn down because the firefighters and police will get laid off.

I'm with Mike, let it happen. I don't think the feds should have bailed any corporations out either back when the economy took a dump. The free market should decide what businesses live or die, not the Federal Reserve or the morons in DC.

Now the news outlets are saying the administration had nothing to do with the DHS letting the detainees free. The news outlets are so sketchy these days I don't know what to believe. Obama keeps claiming to be out of the loop when it comes to Benghazi, Fast and Furious and now this (among a lot of other stuff). Either he's really dumb and has no idea what his people are doing or he screws things up frequently and refuses to accept responsibility. Either way we lose. It doesn't help that the media rolls over and pees on its belly every time he speaks to them.

XH29N0G

The way I see it, this whole thing came about because the govt went into a budget hole and could not find a way out because the parts of the budget that had been being cut were parts that some wanted to protect and there were other parts of the budget that they wanted to distribute the cuts to that were shielded from previous cuts.

Without raising the money to pay for it (which would require moving tax rates back up) it could not be balanced.

So, they (Democrats and Republicans) put something in place that would cut across the board.  I am pretty sure that the ones who favored raising taxes thought that once the cuts happened across the board (military and other places) that it would provide incentive to raise income (taxes).  Bottom line is no one likes taxes, so we will make cuts until it is more economical to pay taxes than lose something we want to keep.  Right now decisions at all levels are just being made about what to cut.

The same old scare tactics, with the same mouths spewing the BS.

God forbid we cut in entitlement programs with tons of waste (free cell phones, free internet, free computers), lets cut prison guards and firemen first.   :rotz:

That's whats bad....there has been no budget passed in over 4 years....the government has been running on a series of "continuing resolutions"...meaning they operate at the previous years funding levels until a budget is passed..government agencies have been working at 2007 levels for the last 4 years...the reason for the budget increases are all the entitlement programs.... that's why they are demanding spending cuts...it's insane how much is wasted on the things you just mentioned....freebies....

Righto  :rotz:

If you are standing on one side and pointing your finger at the other, you are part of the problem. We hire these people to stand for principals and the platfrom they run on, but also to compromise and work toward the overall good of the county. They've completely lost sight of that. The game is not "Win at any cost".

That's why i say bring it on.. You, we, they..... all need a wake up call.

In many cases, that's the thought pattern the folks in Washington seem to have. It's all about the agenda and they'll do anything it takes to shove it through, even if it means shredding the Constitution. Basically it boils down to power and protecting that which gets them the votes they need to stay put. If they have to promise money we don't have to millions of freeloaders to get the votes, they'll do it with a smile on their face and not think twice about budget deficits or the national debt.

BTW, the administration is fixing to send $60-$80 million to the Syrian rebels pretty soon.

Think of it this way. If you take their budget and compare it to yours or my budget, They won't be able to buy that six pack of beer this week.

In their case they'd buy beer and lottery tickets and skip the mortgage payment.
