hi.  i'm getting ready to order a a/f gauge for tuning purposes and data logging and there are 4 that i'm interested in.  i was wondering if anyone here had any of the four that i have listed with any good input, if one brand is better than the other or recommend another a/f gauge.  my goal was to stay under $200.
1. aem 30-4100 $165
2. innovate motorsports 3844 (mtx-L)$168
3. innovate motorpsorts 3873 (db)$176

or for $300 no gauge required, it uses your iphone as the interface and it reads a/f and (2) egt's(via wifi)
4. aem 30-2320 $306

I am leaning towards #1. It got great reviews but #2 has easier data logging.

I have the Innovate MTX (not sure if I have any -L, maybe there is newer model out nowadays).

It's easy to use, works well, and very flexible. No problem to set it for different fuels like E85, I will even use it for checking the combustion in my wood burner heating the house.

Nice to have both the analog meter display and the possibility to log everything in the computer.

Highly recommended.

mhinders i took your advice. i pulled the trigger on the (#2)mtx-L. i got it for $168 shipped.   it has easier data logging software. i will let you guys know how it works out.

The MTX L is a good starting point, but you will probably find yourself wanting to record more than just AFR. RPM, throttle position, and MAP are very import parts of the tuning equation.

Fortunately, the Innovate system is expandable.

I have an AEM... had a local radiator shop install the bung for $30. Wiring was simple enough. Definitely helps tuning, especially between seasons when the temperature has changed significantly. Just don't wire it off of the radio power circuit... introduces the digital chirping sound through the speakers.

installed the guage and its  reading (max) 22.4 at idle and cruise and 16.5 at wot...does this mean my car is running really lean or rich?

i just talk to innovate motorsports and i was describing what my readings were but the car is running great with no detonation and spark plugs look good.  they said a pinhole around bung would cause this and i know i didnt get the weld on the top of the bung.  just a fyi if anyone else runs into this problem.

It should go without saying that any exhaust leak upstream of the sensor will cause eroneous readings.
