The vent was disassembled, cleaned, dried, and then sprayed with about 5 very thin coats of Landau Black. After that, it was re-assembled and then the silver was applied.

Nice job!

Should be getting the console top back from re-chrome by Monday - hope to have some pics soon after.  My original piece was good but not great and wouldn't hold up to the rest of the car, but at the same time I didn't want to put in a Year One piece if I had a decent original - so eventually decided to bite the bullet and go for the re-chrome.

I'll be getting my power window switches back too.

Ordered my redlines from Diamondback  (235s up front 275s in the rear) to go on the 15x7 and 15x8 Mag 500s (which I already have).  I stupidly forgot about the spare, so I'm going to try and amend my order today w/ an additional 235.

BTW - for anyone who's interested, DB now carries an H-rated tire for redlines (rated to 130mph as opposed to 118mph for the T-rated)  I ordered the H, and I'm figuring the tires won't be so soft such that they'll kick up too much shit on my quarters, but I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I'll post more pics next week.

In the meantime, I found these pics of the grill support and headlights.  BTW - the guy in the photo is Mark Kemper - he's the guy actually building the car down in the LA area.  I think I mentioned on another post, he's the guy who built the Rats-to-Riches Road Runner.  Super nice guy, and had already built 5 or 6 1968 Chargers prior to this one.  I found him and his team prior to even looking for the car as I knew I was going to be doing a pretty high end build and I wanted guys who had been there done that w/ this exact car several times before doing mine.

We're shooting to for having the car done prior to Spring Fling show on April 5-6.  It's literally just a few miles from the shop and I think it's one of the biggest Mopar shows on the West Coast.  I'm really hoping it's done in time!

Much to my surprise, the vinyl top is on...  My understanding was that we needed to send the car out to get the top on, but it looks as though they came to the shop to put it on.  I'll have to find out what the deal was tomorrow.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Thanks guys!

Yeah it's really coming along.  The guy who did the headliner took back all the materials for the seats and he's doing them back at his shop.  Hopefully within 2-weeks the the interior is ready to go.  Still need to get the console top and power window switches back from re-chrome.  Supposed to be any day... but they've been saying that for a week.

I did go out and get a 1968 CA Black License Plate!  The photo below is not my plate, but a NOS plate that will look very similar.  (also the plate below is not a 68 plate - the 68s started w/ a W or an X.  The one I got starts w/ an X.  I tried to get one that started w/ XS but I couldn't find one and I don't want to sit waiting for 6-months)  My plates should be cleared w/ the DMV and I just need to get a 68 sticker now and I should be all set to register the car w/ the black plates.   :2thumbs:

Can you let me know how the DMV goes. I just got some black W plates that i need to take to DMV. I have the 68 sticker.

Who did you send the console top to for re-chroming? and how much did it cost?

Supercharged Riot

I did a lot of observations about the black California plates, some 1968 car may have also received plates assigned with the letter "V" as well. Not just "W" and "X"

Nice build. Did you handle the body work and outsource the rest?

Sure - I'll post it up when the time comes - probably another month or so.

Tough to parcel out the exact cost because we sent some other stuff too.  Best estimate is about $550 for all of the top pieces together.

No, the body and paint were done by an excellent shop that happens to be next to the one where the car is being done.
