I am watching the episode where they CLAIM to restore a 68 Charger. I watched this before and see just how flippers work. they cover up everything wrong with the car. one part that sticks out is how they solved the bad vinyl top issue. they said it was in pretty bad shape & needed replacing, however, they did NOT remove the bad vinyl top before putting a NEW vinyl top right on top of the bad one. Now you still have the problem, but you cannot see it. the only thing you CAN see is too thick of a vinyl top. I don't see HOW they can use the word fully restored. They skimp on something like this, that charger is gonna fall apart on the poor sap who bought it for his 16 year old kid who has no idea of what he has ( 68 charger) and has no idea what he has ( rusted out skimmed over bondo buggy with electrical that is just waiting to go up in flames from BAD wires & BAD wiring work.Yeah, these jerks should be real proud of their quality ? work. :brickwall: :Twocents:

I like when they ran it on the track, its tired motor showed in the time it ran.

I don't believe what they said the resto cost.  It had to cost more.

Here's a vid of the auction

If you're going to 'restore' a car and sell it at auction, it might be a good idea not to paint it a color that a few will love but most will hate.   Who wants to drive around a Jolly Rancher shaped like a Charger?

No reality show is real.......that kid probably really never ended up with the car

I'm pretty sure this was the one which they installed the grill upside Down!!!  As they drove away the camera picked up the hole for the good release on the bottom of the grill opening!   :brickwall:   Details, details, details....
But I guess they did only have a few weeks to make a "perfect" full restoration!!    :nana:

I would be interested in how the car stood up over time and what if any flaws showed up.

i watched it again in HD and can't see the hole you talk about (checked when they drive it out of the car hole for it's first reveal). I think it's a reflection of the hole in the bumper that you're seeing.

I upgraded to Direct Tv the other day, so I now have Velocity, and I'm finally watching the episode right now. It's a joke. The guys don't even know the facts on these cars. The one about the Sassy grass green only being available on the R/T models made me laugh out loud. That and how they are going "the parts are extremely hard to find for these cars".  :smilielol: Apparently they never heard of AMD

Yeah like 19.47 seconds, thats really really bad.  If you look at the body work its horrible and they had the camber and caster way off.  Pathetic work to say the least.  That yard is a joke anyways.

Yeah, I saw all of that too. I does look tons better then it did when they bought it, but still. It still needs a total restoration again :P

Bring that car to Wisconsin, give it one winter and the bondo that they put on like cake frosting will be cracked on the whole car

I even noticed when the winning buyers drove it away, The bottom of the drivers door doesn't even come close to closing. It had to be sticking out a good quarter inch :rotz:

They make Lutke Motors look like experts on restoring Charger's  :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

wasnt it a one week resto and very poorly put together resto at that. Just horrible, horrible, horrible, and I think it only cost them total 5k to put it all together with their 300 maaco paint they did.

mikeydf14

I also watched this episode twice and came to the same conclusions. They have NO IDEA what a true resto is all about. What they did was prolong the inevitable.  Haven't watched that show since and don't plan too either. They did that Charger, and other cars, a complete injustice!

actually those guys on the desert kings actually do own and work at that junkyard here in phoenix.  If you walk in you might see the son working there....

yes i know they are real people.....but the shows are staged!....

That show ran one season and then crapped out. It sucked ass. The Charger episode was as bad as the one with the early Barracuda in which they staged a breakage of the "rare" rear greenhouse window.
Calling this sort of work "restoration" is a tough dilemma: There is no other word that rolls off of the tongue to describe "fixing up" a car.
Refurbish?
Rebuild?
Restify?
Resto-mod?
They all suck, so what do we call it when we/they/those guys take a worn out car, paint it and get it running?
These guys all appear like idiots on the show and I am NOT defending them, but we need to come up with a better word to describe the process.
