I'm just amazed how many people won't verify and buy what they feel is correct.   A dad I know just purchased a 71 Chevelle because "he wanted one and it fit into his budget".  The car was over priced by $10k.  He didn't care though.....

At least he didn't call it a 440  Hemi.

If you have the coin & want it, what kind of price do you put on happiness.

Agreed.  Not everyone wants to wait around 10 years to make sure they're paying at or below market value.
[ŌŌ]ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ[ŌŌ] = 68

If it's a solid car, it's worth 20-25K imo.  Real R/T or not.  :Twocents:

And it encourages further misrepresentation.

They might not have known it's not an R/T.  Not everyone is an expert

Do you need to be an expert?  It a fairly simple determination and since it appears to be someone who owns it as opposed to a dealer they shpould have some basic knowledge of the car.  You could be right though and it would be courteous to contact him and politely inform of the error.  However, since I've done that about a dozen times in the past only to have about dozen "kiss off if you dont like it dont buy it Ill sell it however I want" replies I tend to jump to the conclusion now that most of these guys know what they are doing.  I'm sure not all of them, just enough to leave me jaded.

ACUDANUT

I know I am no expert. I thought the 5th digit on VIN (G) was a 318 car. It is that way from 1970-74.

your assuming they wait 10 years, but in reality they dont have to wait that long.  So it still 'wrong' to over pay 10k just for the sake of because.  If two cars are sitting next to each other and one saids 'RT' and its a clone and another is the same with no RT labels and the RT label guy over charges 10k sorry I would pick the non RT version.

Its different if the person is completely DUMB about cars ok let him spend his money the way he wants, but it seems the guy father knows what he is doing and went ahead and payed 10k extra for no reason so let him be I say, but highly doubt he had to wait 10  years.

Ghoste

In 1969 G is actually a 383 two barrel but a 440 car should be  L.

hotrod05

I'm looking for a 68 R/T. Every time I see one that looks like what I would consider I get sooooo exited. Maybe last year I might have purchased this car. Thanks to all the people on this site I have learned so much about what to look for. Just beyond scratching the surface. I saw right away the vin was wrong. So there went another R/T clone out the window. Wow, at least thanks to the people here when I make my purchase I will know I have a fair deal. I will not get less than what I paid for. Thanks again

Ghoste. What is the code for 69 318 ?
