Did Creative receive birds to modify before or after rear plug was installed??

ok. I know a couple of you out there know exactly how it went down. Did they receive shipments of complete roadrunners and then strip everything off paint and all. Weld in the plugs. And then fill them in and repaint everything? Or did they receive bodies and weld them in and then ship back to be painted?
