ok. I guess this would go for all the cars. superbird as well as gtx. I have a distributor. red tag part number 3438222.. And it has that little black box on the vacuum advance. Is that set up only for calif. cars? Or others? And if i wanted to just take that off. do i need to buy a different vacuum advance unit or would it would still look correct? ron

The mods are probably going to move this over to the engine section. :2thumbs:  This is more of an engine related issue than a wing car issue.

3438222 is from a '70 440 HP, the black box is a retard solenoid for emissions purposes.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

DoubleDlover

hi. tehre. So can i remove the box or would there be a big hole there or something that wouldnt look or be right? And would that part number still be the same even if it didnt have that black box? thanks

maxwellwedge

That is a 1970 440-4bbl deal. The 440-6 got it in 71.

It is meant to hook up to power and the idle solenoid as well. Not sure how it will function if not hooked up. You can change it with a standard (1969) 440 vacuum advance can if you are not using the system.

DoubleDlover

yes thats kinda what i was meaning. could i just do that and the part number on that tag on the dist. still be correct? thanks

Would a 70 383 4 brl distributor be the same as a 70 440?

I'm actually looking for a 70 440 4 brl distributor if anyone has one.    Thanks

383 & 440 distributors are not interchangeable...they won't fit the other engine
