power to manual window conversion on a 1973

All,
After fighting with my power widows for 3 months, I decided to convert back to good old standard manual crank windows. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to bold the new regulators in the doors.
I have a 1973 SE, so the lower door panels are do not have holes where the cranks should be(to use as a guide).
The power regulators had  4 screws, and the manual regs have 3 screws.  I'm not even sure the SE inner door has a hole for the crank shaft.  While there is a hole that looks like it would work, but its not in the correct spot...I think its the spring inspection hole (at least thats what it is on the power regulator).
So I'm stuck.
Has anyone else done this mod?
Is this not a simple bolt-in? where am I going  wrong?
