Oct 11th 2012 the iHobby Toy Show opened, a toy business trade show. I thought some may be interested in the new 1:18 die cast that were announced at this event. Also one HO slot car set... Whoo hoo, a 69 Super Bee without Mod Top or A12 package.  Ordering one of those.  Liking the Daisy Duke Road Runner too.

Jim, I have a question on the red 1:18 68 charger on your website. the photos show it in the box to be  a  red color & the top photo shows it with a slight orange color.   Can you tell me if it DOES have an orange color to it or is it a solid deep red ? My high school car was a red/orange with black vinyl top and looked exactly like the very TOP picture in your website photo.

Photo's came from different camera's is what you are seeing (sorry). The 1:18 car closely matches the top photo. It seldom happens that you can find one that "really" matches your real car... so we'd be happy to sell you one.

No sense asking about the status on the DMCL Cahrger I guess, if you knew you'd tell us right?

ain't that the truth...
Originally when they "put it on hold" they said they would look at it again in 2013. (Me) Not wanting to wait, just last week (10/8/12) I did ask our sales rep to bring it up again whenever he was next meeting with the manufacturer. I also added in an idea that a customer suggested "to help" get the DMCL cars done. One of the obsticals is that FOX doesn't want to be bothered with so little money. A manufacturer can only pay so much for a name on a product, and it's really just not that big of run of cars to "add up" to much $ for FOX. Our customers suggestion was to then UP what all is being produced. Makes sense to me. They (AutoWorld) do have some General Lee HO Slot Car sets coming out this fall, so he suggested making a DMCL HO Slot Car set too. I think it has some merit. And it would "add" overall to the money paid to FOX. Anyway I did pass along this suggestion, but these things take time. When I know more, I promise to let the Mopar world know...

Well AutoWorld (the one who announced the DMCL car) did get back to me today 10/16/12. They do not have any plans to make the car, and will not attempt again in 2013 as once was said.  Dead project. We do thank all who did support the car and placed a pre-order with us. Of course all orders will be deleted, and no credit cards were ever charged, and will not be. Sorry, we wanted it as bad as you did...   :'(

I did get your PM through the site here, but it was not on this subject. Was there a DMCL question?

440

I've read somewhere that the tooling etc to run a finished quality dicast car is around one million  :eek2:

Jim, yes, the DMCL car will probably be on a permanate hold if the studios cannot make enough money to make it worth it for them right ?

Which is pretty understandable considering the huge effort they would need to put into it.  The enormous staff and countless hours of overtime, flying assistants and studio vice presidents all over the world, the entire floor of lawyers, the fleet of new vehicles they would have to lease, the list just goes on and on and the costs become pretty staggering when you add up how much work it would take them to say yes, do it, this is the percentage we want in royalties and here is where to send the check.

How about this idea. just get a 1 :18 69 charger R/T with slotted mags or get aftermarket slotted mags if the charger doesn't come with them. All we would need is for someone to "make" an after market black racing stripe with " 440" on the stripe. Jim. i believe  you have a yellow 69 charger in 1:18 already & I know you have a yellow 68 charger. We could make our own DMCL charger and since it is being sold as just an ordinary 69 Dodge Charger that happens to be "all" yellow with no vinyl top. Would that help us get closer to our dream car ? we would all know what would be on our display shelves.

Jim,
I sent you a PM last week, did you get it?

On regards to the DMCL subject, I managed to make a set of slots off the Starsky and Hutch Torino fit the die cast '69 Charger RT pretty easily. Just a repaint with spray paint and mask and paint the stripes and you'd be good to go!
