PGClassic slotted tips didn't hold the red paint either.What's next, POWDERCOAT?

I made a roadtrip on an interstate highway with my new slotted tips, after get one stolen. Going down from my city ( I live at 900-1000 meters height city ) to a 500 meters city the red paint hold the heat and exhaust fumes mixture. I didn't need to give a lot of gas to the car though.

But now, going up back to my city for 1 hour, 80 MPH average when I had to give more gas to beat the height difference and of course, produce more heat and fumes, the paint didn't hold. Now I have a nice BURNT finish 

what to use now ?

Have you tried the ones from Accurate Exhaust or TTi, I heard they were powdercoated.

Powdercoating might be your best bet Nacho, it does seem more durable than paint.

Is it possible that they did not prep the area right prior to painting?  I would imagine that something as far back as the tail pipe tip should be able to stand up to some kind of high temp heat.  Lets face it, engine paint does as well as the VHT nu cast exhaust manifold paint!

it is peeling off like it was a metallic skin over the pipe, liuke a bad rechroming job.

the "grayshy" areas inside the slots is the red finish peeling off

dunno why, driver side doesn't look THAAAAAAT bad... ( you can see it on pic )

That sucks. It ticks me off that PG Classic doesn't make better parts. They are in Canada, so shipping is so much better for me. Do they come apart to paint them?

they are China parts and I bet any seller around including BEA will sell you the same pieces. keep out from the ones jiema8 sells on ebay which are even worst ( those were the first ones I got and one of them was stolen )

to come appart need to cut the welding seams ( 3 on each one )... not really hard to do. Then assembly back and welding at same places, then polish the welds

It might be a simple procedure but it sure sucks that you have to go through that with brand new parts.

Hate to say it. Although $300 is a lot of cash it is still no promise of quality.  Mine were more from TTI, but with my first summer complete they still look like new.  In for a penny in for a pound in this hobby.

I had an old set of tips on one of my cars and they had nice chrome but the paint was tired.
I resprayed the red with engine enamel and then used paint thinner to remove red from the chrome and all was good to go...

I called a powder coater to do my tips and they told me that powder coating is not the way to go with the tips.  They told me to find a ceramic coating facility to do the work.

Did they say what it was about the powdercoat that made it a poor choice?

I do believe it was because of the heat.  Ceramic coating holds up much better to the heat over powder coating.

And I hate to think what it would cost to ship them to the US and then back again.  Seems strange that they did it in the first place.  High temp engine paint?

Is it practical to try and use some engine paint on them before resorting to a high temp coating like ceramic?  Ceramic seems like an extreme solution in this case.
