I'm totally excited. It's in about 600 pieces at the moment but should be a pretty quick reassembly. Currently in primer as well so I'll need to paint it but that won't be too big of a deal. Got a pretty good deal on it too since it's all tore down. Car included a ton of boxes from Year One as well, invoices on those added up to over $5k (a number of years ago, who knows what this list of parts would cost today?). Parts include everything from new front/rear bumpers to a few floor panels to a headliner. Pretty much everything that I'll need to put her back together (including the factory and a pair of AMG front fenders).

Nothing special to look at right now but here are a few pics anyway...

We're going to go and pick it up next Saturday. Can't wait!

in my mind being all torn down is a plus, that way you really can see what you are getting.  and you would have probably had to tear it down anyway.  good to see after years of 'someday',  someone is actually restoring the old girl.  would love to know what you gave for it and what you figure needs to be done yet.  good luck, i'll be watching.   hawkeye

Sweet!    Looking forwards to seeing more pictures.

I'll get some more posted early next week. I'm going to pick it up on Saturday and, with any luck, will be able to get to work on it right away. Wrenches in one hand, camera in the other.

When buying a car in this condition I agree 100%. The first car that I bought had a lot of hidden problems under a very recent paint job. I didn't know how/where to look for problems and got a quick lesson while we were stripping it down. Having it tore down like this and in primer, I knew exactly what I was getting from the start. Since I've been there, done that, I also knew what parts to look for and how she goes back together. Win, win, at least for me.

This car started life as a triple green car, F8 with vinyl top and green interior. Some of the interior parts have been swapped over to black but much of the factory green is still there. Although many seem to despise the F8, I actually kind of like it. That said, I highly doubt that I'll restore it to the triple green.

My kids have been begging me for the last few years to build my first Charger into a General Lee. For the same number of years, I've flat out refused. This car, on the other hand, is a perfect starting point for a General. I'm very tempted to fix the big things and give this one an orange paint job and a confederate flag to appease the kids and make their dreams come true. That way I can continue to concentrate on my first restoration project. Once that restoration is "complete", I can turn my attention back to this car. That will give me time to decide where I want this project to go. In the meantime though, we'd have a car to drive and enjoy while working on my never ending restoration.

if i ever build one i would prolly make a general too. the general is what got me into these awesome cars when i was a little kid. i put the dixie horn in just for that same reason.

Same here, that's partially why I'm so tempted to give into the kids and build a GL. They have been "thankful for" the "General Lee" every night after prayers since Saturday. Can't go wrong there. LOL

The more time that passes, the happier I have been with this purchase. I think that this car combined with all of the parts that I acquired with it will go a long way toward getting both of them restored. I'm going to do a lot more of the body work myself this time around as well so I hope to learn even more than I did the first time. At this point I have about $6k invested so, in the end, it should prove to be a pretty good purchase... I hope.  :shruggy:

Very nice.  You say nothing much to look at but a partially dismantled 69 Charger is still waaaaaaaay nicer than a brand new anything else.

ACUDANUT

It may be a great score, depending on what you paid for it.  What did you have to give for it ??

Keep in mind that included the car and a ton of parts. There are quite a bit of parts in boxes. Not only factory original to this Charger but a ton of stuff from a parted out Coronet and a significant amount of parts from Year One still in the wrapper. New repop parts as well (mostly AMD); floors, trunk floor, rear panel (below the bumper), rear corner caps, both front fenders (factory fenders included as well, they don't look to bad either), front/rear bumpers and bumperettes (factory bumpers/buperettes included as well, in pretty good shape too), glass, etc. After going through the garage, a storage facility, and a room in the house, it appears that there is enough to finish this car, my other Charger, and then some. I might need to skin or replace the passenger side quarter but, other than that, I'll just need a few small parts here and there. The only things that I couldn't account for while searching boxes was the chrome trim for the driver's side taillight (which might be a 70 anyway, I want to take a closer look at that one) and the chrome trim for the sail panel (original vinyl top). Just because I couldn't find it during my initial search doesn't mean that it's not there though, there was a LOT of stuff to sift through... I'm going to have to do a complete inventory as I unpack it all.

LOL

I made mention to the fact that so many don't like the dark green color. I'm not sure why though, I kinda like it. If you look closely at the pictures, you can see some of the factory paint poking through. No matter though, I highly doubt that it will be that color green again, at least not for quite some time.
