Is there a physical break in the coil?  Do they lose continuity or do they just have a resistance change somehow?  I know the symptoms of a fialed one and this isn't that type of question, I'm just trying to undertand the physical characteristics of the things.  Seeking knowledge out of boredom I guess?

If it's just out of curiosity, tear one apart.  Sounds like your bored.  One more reason to tear something apart.  Take caution though, curiosity killed the cat. :2thumbs:

I don't have a busted one to tear apart.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses.  You can't make a busted one?

I have seen old ones where the compound has fallen off the back with a break in the coil. Never had one fail on me.

I had one fail a couple of months ago-there was a physical break in the thingamabob with the wire wraped around it. Popped a new one in and runs good as new.
