A chev will do that , try that with a 318 though ,  a friend decided to kill the 318 in his wifes chall , the new 360 was already to go in so no loss , 45 mins later it was till running fine , shut it off & pulled it out in still running condition LOL

I have, when I was 16 I had a old 76 318 4x4 Ram and I got pissed one night and held it to the floor being young and dumb! granted I did not hold it to the floor that long but long enough that I revved it to god only knows the RPM and should have floated a valve or other serious engine damage but it did not! I also ran the thing out of oil several other times. 318 has to be the most reliable motor ever.

Well atleast it was just a 305..... I think GM's thinking when designing the 305 was a powerful small block that gets good fuel economy, they succeeded at neither, 305's are boat anchors.

Hot Rod (I think) did a test about 20 years ago where they drained the oil out of a Dodge, Chevy, and Ford smallblock and then ran all them on a stand at redline until they went kaboom.    The 350 was the only one that lasted more than a minute, I think it went like 7 minutes before it died and the other two grenaded at maybe 45 seconds or so.

Think Chevy paid for that test and/or supplied a well built extremely low-tolerance motor?   Me too, now that I'm older and know how the world works, but when I was a teenager back then and for years it was cemented in my mind that 'Chevy Smallblock = bulletproof'.

It had the intended effect.   Now I beg to differ.

Hot Rod magazine might as well merge with the Super Chevy rag, tooting GM's horn on almost every car it reviews or tests and Mopars get last place treatment almost all the time!

You'll be lucky if they run one article about a mopar.  Seems to be their quota. :P

Since I'm too cheap to buy some magazines, it burns me that Mopar Muscle is on newstands on 2 weeks, but the other mags are on display for a full month and then some.

Sadly i did it with a 383 once.  I had a 64 Custom 880, 383, 182,000 miles on it.  I thought i would rebuild it, so, i drained the oil out of it and started it up.  nothing happened, so i stopped it and let it heat up, and started it again, lifters were making a racket, but no rod knocks that i could hear.

I did this 3 or 4 more times, nothing happened, so i put oil back in it and drove it for another 5 yrs, still ran fine,

When you use a 12" ruler as a micrometer and grind your cranks loose, they will run longer with no lube.
