We found out today that Blue Shield doesn't cover in-home custodial care. They only cover post operative/recovery in-home care.
What next.............the hits just keep on coming. Hospice, thank God for them, comes over 3 time a week to bath and dress my darling but its become more than I can handle the rest of the week requiring 2 or 3 more mornings of such assistance. I'm trying not to whine but what the hell is insurance good for when you need relatively inexpensive help like this.  :icon_smile_angry:
We'll bluntly tap family assistance now for this extra help but if push comes to slap we may have to sell our Charger to cover more "can't get outta bed anymore" expenses. The very idea is tearing at our guts along with everything else. We restored this car together..........our spirits are in that car.....we went to our last car show together this weekend.
Forgive me for sounding selfish but I'd still like to have our car when my bride passes..........it sure wouldn't be the same but she'd still be there riding shotgun........kinda.
What a freakin' pisser..........

OK, I'm done now........no worries, we'll get through it......I'm ex-Navy. :icon_smile_big:

Same here, they take your money, but when you need help they do not want to give any back.

Fred

It's just one big scam isn't it?  Even house, contents and car insurance's piss me off.  Why is it that I pay year after year and when I do finally have a claim (even a small one) my premiums go up the very next year. What happened to all the money I've payed in over the years. Surely it should've coved a $1000.00 claim.
Tthey sure do have us by the short and curlies.

Sorry to hear this sad news Tom.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

First, So Sorry this sh*t is happening to you Tom. You certainly don't deserve this. Anything I can do to help, Just lemme know. Only the good suffer, as I'm sure you know all too well.

I'll tell you where those premiums went. Every time you see One of those Thrill chasin', Death wish havin', Dumbasses on a motorcycle doing stupid stunts and failing badly, or some dude/chick in the other lane flying down the highway On a cell phone text messaging and crashes. Someone has to cover those expenses and you think it doesn't happen? Think again. Insurance companies MAKE money off Insurance. Last Time I checked, Insurance was supposedto be there in case you needed it yourself, why am I having to pay for some other stupid sh*t I had nothing to do with? Same with Home owners insurance. I called mine and asked WTF mine went up. This is what I got as a reply: "Sir, the fires out in Cali. have caused everybody's insurance to go up. Someone HAS to cover that"....

My reply was: "Well, I didn't set 'em! Why the hell do I have to pay for it? I mean, I pay for my own f*ck ups, not someone elses'!!"

Tom, nobody pays for long term custodial care.  Medicare will pay for temporary care though but I guess you guys didn't hit 65 yet.  There are ways to manipulate the system and my wife's real good at it so I'm going to talk to her and will get back to you.

EDIT:  When I say nobody I mean no insurance but private long term care insurance, it's seperate.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Really, really sorry to hear about your situation, Sir. Sometime I just wonder if it would have been better to live off the system and let others pay for my care instead of trying to better myself and family and pay my own way all these years! I paid many, many years of health insurance without having a single claim and now find myself fighting rising health costs and stupid reasons for unpaid claims everyday. You and your family, obviously, have much more to worry about than me right now and my heart aches for your situation.

I hope you know we are all hoping and praying for you and a good and fair solution to your familys' problems .

mpdlawdog

the system sure knows how to beat people when they are down....thoughts and prayers are with you!  I know Im across the country but I wish there was a way I could help!  Hang on to that car!

You're right of course Cooter,
It's the same here with the fire levy. As you say, we're paying for everyones insurance and it stinks!
I bet your reply didn't get you anywhere.  We're being bled dry and there's not a damn thing we can do about it.

You guys are the best and Diane and I deeply appreciate the support. We just didn't realize/know the difference between recooperative care vs custodial care. It never dawned on us to sort it out until the need was just outside the wire. Short learning curve there.
3 - 4 years back when we knew the dance was winding down I tried to buy LTC insurance through work. As soon as I told them she has Fahr's syndrome you could damn near hear them locking the doors across country.
Ah well, I love her more each day and my care for her will stand until my last breath. My vows are my rock.

Thanks folks!

we are helping Jackie , maybe we can send a few $$ your way as well ?

You're a good man CP! Our Jackie's hurting more than we are and her needs are immediate. We're both pensioners and have planned fairly well so we are safe, secure and have our own home.
Its just the insurance companies boggle the mind and they sure as hell boggled mine yesterday.
We all have something and all we have is each other. I'm glad I've got you guys.

Tom and Diane, I so sorry, this really sucks. I wished I lived closer. So when I was better I could help. I read your posts and see how much you love Diane and it's amazing. Don't sell your Charger. Maybe people at your church could give you a break. When I was in the car accident in 1986. I lived in the boonies. People I didn't even know, from my church gave me rides to docs and brought my son and I food when we needed it. Maybe there is something like that out there.  :shruggy: Or maybe thru Navy Relief. I'll call my son. We had a  fund raiser for Navy Relief . maybe they have some volunteers ?
