Took the mount off to replace the tranny , now I can't get the torsion bars to line up with the mount. Anybody have a trick to get them to line up, I am about a 1/8" off?

Ghoste

Are they under tension at the front?

randy73

No, I released tension when I took the member off.

Re-reading this, I thought the torsion bar mount was part of the permanent cross member and the trans mount bolted between the left and right members used for the t bar mount.

The trans mount doesn't contain the torsion bars. It has four bolts that allow it to drop independant of the t-bars. SO I guess I'm wondering why you removed the t-bars to replace the trans?

randy73

There are 2 bolts on mine and the torsion mount  butts up next to the tranny mount, had to take it off to get to the tranny mount bolts and I put in a 46RH tranny, which is longer, so I need the torsion mount out of the way.

Ghoste

Is that 3rd gen stuff?  Every t-bar mount I have seen was welded to the floor.  You aren't talking about the end that goes into the control arm, correct?

Chryco Psycho

you may have to release the upper or lower ball joint to allow the arm to drop down enough to line up the hexes

randy73

That was not what I wanted to hear, but that is the conclusion I had.

what does it take 10 mins to pop the tire off remove the cotter pin undo the nut & pop the upper joint apart with a large hammer ?
