O.E. coolant tank for the real O.G.  :apimp:   Going with a Colt 45 bottle for my build.  :icon_smile_big:

Beer can here too.  For some reason whenever I have seen a recovery tank in an old car that didn't have one it looks very out of place to me.  The oe style one never looks right or oe to my eye.  The beer can look is somehow "day two" sixties to me I guess.

I use the original washer bottle on all my cars.     I pull the electric motor and install some fittings for the bottom.     It doesn't hold a ton but it works.

When I bought my 69 Charger RT 12 years ago, it did not have one and does not leak out of the overflow tube. I have a 3 core radiator, I mounted a MOPAR gear lube bottle from the 70's and once the car ran it overflowed the bottle, so i removed it. Do I need one? I bought & drove the car that way in the heat of Las Vegas a few years and it never leaked a drop???? Still not running one.....

Whether or not you need an overflow/recovery bottle depends primarily on how high you need to run your coolant level.

Cars with cross flow radiators need to have the coolant topped off for maximum cooling efficiency, and therefore need a tank. These require a recovery-type tank that allows for the coolant to get sucked back into the tank as the car cools down.

In addition, on vehicles where the radiator filler cap is not the highest point in the cooling system, the system is usually filled through the recovery tank that is mounted higher in the system.

Down flow radiators don't have to run topped off. Coolant level just needs to be high enough to cover the core. In the event a down flow radiator is overfilled (or over heated), the bottle helps keep everything environmentally friendly.

Overflow tanks are required for racing where coolant overflow on the racing surface can have disastrous consequences.

I picked up a $2.00 Rubbermaid liquid container from Walmart.  Drilled a hole in the lid and painted it satin black.  Works perfect.
