Can anyone explain how this glove box lite works?

It's for my 69 SE and I assume the wire sneaks in along side of the bulb but then what? Does it just sit under the bulb base?

Seems like a poor design???

The missing power wire enters the switch part way down it length, this supplies the power to the bulb; the metal base grounds to the dash when the plunger is extended.

The light enters the glove box through a translucent lens in the side.
