Is it possible to replace the axle bearings myself or do I need a shop?

Looks like there is a retaining collar and maybe the bearings are pressed on?

Bearings generally require a press.

you can get the old ones off by cutting groove in the retainer & bearing race & splitting them with a chisel but you still need a press to seat the new parts

I've actually heated up carrier and pinion bearings up to about 450 in a toaster oven and been able to drop them on. Never tried it with the outer axle bearings though.

Note, if you try the heating method, DO NOT PACK THEM WITH GREASE FIRST. Also, probably a good idea to wait and try in when your wife isn't around.

Common practice to put motorcycle wheel bearings in the freezer so that they will drop into the hub without a press. Can't see why the reverse wouldn't work.
