Friend of mine found a set of low mileage magnum heads from a 90something Dakota. I want to swap these onto my stroked 318 but heard that they are known for having cracks.
Where do I look to see if they are cracked? I'll have them magnafluxed later but am wondering if visually you can see any cracks?

Is this where they typically crack?

Yikes! I better have mine on my 360 checked before I work 'em then.

Yes, I believe that's the common crack. It's debatable whether it's truly an issue though as many fine running engines were found to have cracked heads. I have a 30k mile 2002 that I have a set of aluminum heads for. One of these days I'll yank the stock heads and see if the cracks exist.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

That is the normal place to crack , you can drill the crack & install a plug & remachine & you would never know it was fixed , we have used many cracked 302 & 308 castings .
