Getting rid of A/C will I need to change my alternator/ crank pulleys?

I have a 383 with all stock pulleys, and was wanting to remove my a/c system as it doesn't work anyway.  I have the dual belts going from the crank pulley to the alternator and a/c compressor.  I also have power steering, and of course the fan belt.

yes, you will need a non a/c water pump pulley.  You may or may not be able to use your current 4 belt crank pulley, see how the belts will line up after installing a non a/c water pump pulley.  you can get these pulleys on ebay, bouchillon performance, or mancini racing.

I have the same problem and was getting ready to ask the same question.  I don't see any on eBay at the moment so I'll try your other sources.

Got mine at Bouchillon.  Easier to buy them there than even spend your time at a junkyard or E-gay.

non A/C cars are completely different belt distribution.

one belt runs Alt, water pum/fan and of course crank, and the other one runs steering pump and crank...

BUT removing A/C compressor doesn't mean you can't run belts untill you find the right pulleys setup. Just run a shorter belt from crank directly to alt, and one belt instead double belt will be enough for a while you find.

I pulled my A/C out many years ago. The only pulley I've replaced is the water pump pulley. I didn't even replace that one for several years as I had trouble finding one. I don't remember exactly, but I think I just did what Nacho outlined.

What are you going to do with your old A/C parts?  I have a 70 Charger 440 that used to have factory air.  A previous owner took it off.  I would be interested in your parts, specifically all of the hoses if you want to sell them.

I just got a non AC 440, if any of you wanting to swap my non AC for your AC pulleys. just e-mail me. Also just to make sure could any one tell me how to tell a AC pulley from a non AC pulley. My 440 does not have AC on it now, but that does not mean that it did not have it 33 years ago. I would not want to give someone the wrong part.

i just purchased a new waterpump and crank pulley from mancini but i also had to buy the different altenator bracket the whole setup cost around $140, pretty good when the alternative is march pulleys that are over $500 easily. i was running a set of ideler pulleys and i still dont trust them but they work.

I just bought different size belts.....lol.....my A/c  was tossed as well....under the dash  too!!!!

Thanks for the offers on my a/c parts, but as of now I plan on keepin em.  You probly wouldn't want them anyway...one of the hoses has a burn spot/ or is just really old at one end and the compressor broke one of the rods off that connects to the piston.

If my memory serves me correctly...I think u can use a top pulley off of a mid 70s 350 chevy. I know that hurts , but only u will know what its off of.......kim...........

I have all that you need since I just removed my NON AC set up. I you could send me pics of your AC set up. I need the tubes and hoses, specifically the 1/2 black tube the runs along and above the intake driver's side. I could use the compessor too if its the correct one, 1968. The YearOne pulleys that I have only has a couple thousand miles on it, and the alternator bracket kit is still brand new in the box. All from Year One. Let me know if OK or make a deal with me.  Thanks
