We've all heard of the 383 Hemi's and 318 Six Packs and what have you but today I just learned of a new one.  It was the Police Special Slant Six.  A 225 with three two barrel carbs on it and guaranteed to do 135 mph from the factory.  No I didn't set the story straight, sometimes its  better to just smile and nod.

Who knows what they actually built, that never seen the light of day or the publics eyes... The 383 BB & 440 RB Hemi, does exsist, but it's the 383-400/413-440 wedge, with Stage V Hemi "conversion" heads, intake & exhaust manifolds, $8000+ package, or use to anyway, check out it @ snailmail address is STAGE V Engineering Corp., PO Box 827, Walnut Ca., 91788-0827, or phone (909)-594-8383 or E-Mail @ info@stagev.com , or website @ www.stagev.com ....

I have a Slant 6 HEMI with 3-2 Barrel carbs.....will do 200 mph with no problem....
I'd post pictures of it but it's under the car cover and my camera is broken, and it's to dark in the garage to take pictures anyway, and I have to much in front of the car to move it out.  Plus, if any one saw it they might try to steal it......But, you can take my word for it......

I've always heard no matter where I am, when the subject of cars comes up this one comes out the woodwork.

The local sheriff's car (Usually a Fury I) that was ordered with a Hemi. Special persuit package. Most times it's called a "Police Interceptor" when Chrysler never had such a thing. FORD called their police packages Police interceptors.

As of this writing, I'm not aware of ANY police departments back in the late 60's running the Hemi due to it's MAJOR cost of maintenance. (Ie Valve adjustments, etc.).The 440 with it's hydraulic lifters offered the performance they police dept. needed without the major expense.

Do you suppose the other makes have these urban myth motors too?   They must, right?  Something like a 71 427 Boss Mustang or a 396 Chevelle with factory 8 barrel carburetion?

Not sure of those but I have heard of a Ford that kept running!   :D

My Dad remembers Chrysler engineering had experimental 225 slant six's running around with fuel injection in the early 80's.

Thing is, Chevy and Ford actually had Hemi engines...Not as myth, Chrysler was just the first to do so.

I think,Probably pretty damn good, from the parts I saw... I know a couple of guys, who paid the $8000+ extortion for the conversion, one was on a RB-440 in a 67 GTX, the other was on a pretty much stock bottom end B-383 in a 68 RR, they were both happy with the results, they look great {but probably could have had, a real hemi for maybe 1/3 more money}, I considered it with a 383/470+ci 4.15" stroker build I was doing, but I never had the extra funds around, to attempt the hemi conversion & I already had some pretty damn good aluminum wedge heads, so I have to live vicariously thru them, they had some issues, I don't really remember what, they were minor stuff I think, they were very well engineered complete conversions, but that was maybe 8 or so years ago now....

:2thumbs: I was thinking the same thing.... Good old Mr. Norm did all kinds of stuff, like that, but that wasn't from the factory, that was a "special" Mr. Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge dealer installed option...
