Hey guys. Forgive my ignorance but still new in the backyard mechanic role. I am trying to install my $400 msd ready to run model distributor. It bolts in fine but while attempting to get my timing correct, the flanged part where the cap gets screwed down hits my head where the long alternator bolt goes in. My engine is a completely stock(as far as i know) 383 in my 1968 charger. I cant even turn the distributor enough to get it to even run rough. Just coughs and backfires. Tried twisting counter clockwise but then i get nothing. Trying to avoid grinding anything to get enough clearance to get the timing right. I have searched all over the internet and found no one with the same issue so am hoping I'm just an idiot and am doing something wrong. Threw the stock distributor back in and she fired right up. Any suggestions at all would be great help. Thanks!

move all the ign wires one position so you can rotate the interference away from the head

It that easy?! Thank you for saving me from my own impatience and taking the grinder to anything.. So just rotate the wires? Nothing else needs to be changed? Thanks again!

Chryco Psycho

Yup just move the wires one position so you can rotate the dist further in the direction it needs to go without hitting the head

Excellent. Thank you so much. I really need to use the massive wisdom on this forum alot more.
