Just curious, where are you located?

With the car in the air loosen the torsion bar bolts so there no longer loaded, remove the bolts from the t-bar cross member and knock it back so the bars come out...continue with transmission removal. Also a good time to replace the torsion bar cross member bushings.

I was in your boat once, pulling the 727 out of my 73 for a rebuild. It's a head scratcher when you first look at it, but believe it or not, the torsion bar support does not need to come out. The key is to get the car up as high as you can (front end at the highest the jack stands will go, and the back end up a few clicks as well if it's possible). Remove the driveshaft, transmission mount support, and then decouple from the engine. Once it's loose but still in place, you should be to push it back laterally and then tilt downward enough for the bellhousing to clear the bottom of the engine skirt and pull it out. Recommended not to do this yourself, cause once it clears it'll slip right out to the ground!

Also remember to pull out the torque converter if you can, cause once you tilt the transmission downward that big sucker will want to fall right out into your lap.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Adam
