Numbers Matching?

Hi all, this could be a dumb question to some of you. I picked up a 73 se with a 400 4 bbl in it, broke down the vin
and looked at the engine stamp to see that indeed it was a 400- 4 bbl stamped on the motor down by the alternator.
I think its a match and all seems good with it.

Question is: is there more to do about verifying the numbers matching or is it as simply as breaking down the vin
and verifying that it was a special order with a "P" code and the type of motor stamped? All I could really see was the
400- 4 stamp and some other numbers but barely.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

on the right side of the engine just behind the engine mount & just above the oil pan rail there is a flat pad with the same serial # as the car stamped there
