A friend (who hates the Superbird) showed me an article that says Porsche claims introduction of the first winged car. In 1974! Five years after Mopar.

I found pictures from Formula One racing of 1966, 1967, and 1968 cars. No wings. Or rear spoilers. I found a Lotus race car from 1969 and it had a wing. So can Dodge / NASCAR lay claim to the first wings for racing?

And for street cars, was Dodge the first wing? Yes there were a variety of spoilers on Mustangs and Camaros before '69, but who made the first wing car?

:scratchchin:

Chrysler played with wing ideas for a long time before they hit production. See http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/_ideaCars-01.shtml?load_img=36

Thank goodness that fugly thing didn't make production.

...many consider these wings... spring 1969

Weren't there some road course cars that had large wings in the mid 60s?  I am thinking of Sebring and such.

Looks like some Formula One racers beat NASCAR by 2 years! Great links.
