I am considering rebuilding my door hinges myself. I was going to buy the kit with the oversize reamer from Resto Rick.
Is the job difficult? Any tips to make the job easier?
Is there anyone that is usually at Carlisle or the Mopar Nats that sell rebuilt hinges?

AMD offers new hinges

I just put new pins and bushings in mine, wasn't too hard except figuring out that the drill bit I needed to fit the bushings in was a 13/32, odd size.

Patronus

Two people sure helps a lot. You may also need an extension to lengthen the bit, but that was an A body. I think the Charger was the same...

Almost 300$ for the set...as apposed to like 20-30$ for the rebuild kit...a little insane imo

I had a guy over on B bodies only rebuild mine, he uses larger pins instead of bushings that crack out. He media blasts them and epoxy primes them $150.00
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I just did the hinges on my 68.
Bought a kit years ago and it's been sitting in my toolbox since, I don't remember for sure but I think I got it from Year One.
Anyway it had 4 pins and 8 bushings. The top hinges have bushings that you just pound out and pound in the new ones.
The lower hinges don't have bushings but the kit has them if you decide to use them (requires drilling). I just popped in the new pins for the lower hinges and replaced the bushings and pins on the top, my doors are so tight now they're like new.

$5/side for the rebuild kit at Rockauto.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The one thing that was bad on mine that you can't rebuild is the little rollers get a flat spot in them.

I'm rebuilding mine now. My roller are in pretty good shape,a little wd40 and all is good. I got the pin and bushing kit from napa,I had to drill out the holes to fit the bushings 27/64 I believe. The only think I found so far is the upper hinges are worn a bit too much,so I may have to make bigger bushings. I deal with sms and I think they want 250. for a rebuild set. So for I've spent $25.00, works for me. :yesnod:

Fred

I made my own bushings. I find the after market ones are too sloppy for my liking. The one's I made are a precision fit.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

lexxman

I have one upper hinge that is sloppy,so I think I'm going to have to made a new bushing for that hinge. The rest were pretty good. I hope to have them all finished tomorrow.

I finished mine today add a little weld in the hole and redrilled it. Just going out to the garage now to prime them. 66FBCharger I would think about re building the ones you have if you can over geting new or re build one from sms. You'll save a lot of money.

I'm going to rebuild my extra set of hinges, so i can minimize the amount of time my Charger will be undrivable.
Thanks for all the feedback everybody.
