727 manual valve body question

Got a 1970 Charger that has been converted to manual shift reverse pattern valve body.   Never had one before.

There is no throttle preasure linkage. I assume it does not need it anymore? shifts firm now.

In first gear it appears that the low band is not applied, it freewheels when down shifted as you slow. (reverse works fine) Is this the way they are normally set up?

To return to normal ,do you just put an auto valve body in and hook up the throttlle preasure?

Thanks.

no throttle pressure linkage needed with a manual valve body , to return to normal swap the valve body & add the linkage

yes, all that you have stated in your post is normal for that set up.

Do the valve bodys hold up well with all the shifting?

John_Kunkel

The valve bodies hold up just fine but they're a little hard on some of the other components.

Converting back to a full-auto valve body might not be as easy as simply installing one, in many cases the governor components are removed when going to manual.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

There are 2 different versions of the manual valvebody.....one w/o low band apply and one with. The older versions did not have low band apply so that's what you have. One word of caution....no 1st gear burnouts with the car or you risk rolling over the over running clutch (sprag) and exploding the front drum.  :o

Makes quite a mess !  :P

As stated above ; no KD linkage required.

I guess I should check the govenor pressure,

I will talk to my son ( his car) about the burnout issue. I have a normal 727 ( Ray Christain) sitting in the garage.

Thanks

You can't check the governor pressure with a rmvb because, even if the governor components are present, the vb blocks off the governor passages in the case.

Other than pulling the tailhousing to visually check for the governor, the only other way to check its presence is to introduce air into the governor pressure port in the case; if the governor is missing there will be a wide open air leak into the tailhousing....if it's there, there will be no major air leakage.
