Which Carter Carburetor?

Trying to get a rebuild kit for my 1966 2bbl Carter BBD.

NAPA lists two of them.

1) Carter C-2,w/ Carburetor # 4125, 4126, 4127, 4128

2) Carter C-2,w/ Carburetor # 4123, 4124, 4463, 4947

The only problem is that I can't find any of those numbers on my carb.

All I've found is 1781 on the side of the bowl, 1984 on the side of the upper part (IIRC), and a 1936 on the bottom part. I think those might all be individual part numbers for each of the sections, and there's no tag on it.

So how does a guy figure out which carb kit is right?

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Once the tag is removed, it is very hard sometimes to identify these carbs.
Assuming you have a 361 which, if it is a 2bbl, in 66 it would be - and the carb is original to the car, you should have a 4125s or 4126s (Manual Trans). 361 Automatic is 4127s or 4128s.
318's were Bexdix carbs in Chargers and the 383 was only 4bbl that year.  273 was not available in 66 in a Charger and 440 was also only available as a 4bbl in a Charger.
So, the answer would be #1 - again IF it is the original or correct carb for you car.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Bob, good diagnosis.

I have the 318 in my Charger. Turns out NAPA listed both carburetor possibilities in their book for the 318, even though #1 is a 361 carb and #2 is a 318 carb. And on top of that, they listed the 318 kit pictures for both kits, which is wrong too. Made for one confusing day.

I got the kit, the carb rebuilt, and the car running.
