I had a guy tell me that for the 1st 2 or 3 yrs they just used 66 hemi bocks in production hemi cars  .  Is this true and if so    y? ??   Thanx

Chryco Psycho

I have heard that as well that a lot of blocks were cast early & used up slowly in production . I cannot verify it though

yes i heard that too , but i'm no expert   :popcrn:

as most no , my car missing its hemi   ,   seems most hemi blocks or engines ive been finding are 1966  , yet to find 67/68  and yes have found 69  ,  yet 66 s seem to out number most,,,which lead me to wonder what the hell happened to all the early production hemi cars   .

There weren't any Hemi blocks cast in the 67 calendar year.
Mopar used 66 cast dated blocks for a long time, before they ran low in inventory.

I currently have 2 early production HEMI blocks in my shop awaiting work, both are date coded castings from 1964 ???

I'll ask the Customers what year "cars" they came from....try not to look stupid...because they usually tell me..I just don't pay attention much...just a hunk of Iron to me nowadays.

Want Pics ?

Pretty weird, but I also noticed that neither of them have any serial number pads beside the pan rail either, nor serial number fior that matter...maybe vintage "RACE" program Blocks from back then ???

One of them was even Std/Std/Std Everything...Bore...Crank..."untouched" High Comp RACE HEMI and in good shape...looked like it had been sitting in a time capsule for 50 years when I dis-assembled it ???
I tried talking the Guy outa using it for a Drag Race build(in favor of newer aftermarket stuff which we could supply and save this vintage stuff), ...he didn't care two hoots...just a core to him...go to town !!
Oilpatch Guys...arrrghhh too much money I guess ???

Challenger: I'd gladly trade a brand new mega block (untouched) for one of those 64 blocks, that way they could go to 4.5. I'm in Kelowna. the block is new in the box in my storage trailer, I also have a new 4.5 crank sitting here too. I'd just as soon build a stocker for my 66 Hemi Coronet to replace the 472 in there now.

I'll ask for you...but these Guys are SS Racers ?? and they really don't care about BIG motors ??
anyways,
..both have been  bored.030 so far/T-Plate honed/squared/line honed, and I had Diamond Custom Pistons built from chamber molds I made.....you taking the pistons as well if any are interested ?
Some Photos...note no serial # on pan rail sides of block ????

Challenger: I would be interested. Looks like it's pretty far along though and I'm not sure but class racing maybe they do need the original block? Nice looking work there.
