Steering wheel upside down

I rebuilt my steering column a while ago but I recall there being a tooth missing from the gear so it would automatically line up your steering wheel.  Is it the same for the power steering box?  I could only get the column to fall all the way onto the power steering gear if my steering wheel is upside down.  So how am I supposed to get the correct steering wheel orientation?

Did you check to see if the shaft is centered on the steering box?  :scratchchin:

Yep, and wiggled the hell out of it.  I couldn't get it to fall into place until I turned the wheel was upside down.

there is a master spline on the gear box and one for the steering wheel as well -  sounds like you put the coupler on the shaft 180* out

Weird, I never took of the coupler off the column shaft but the previous owner might have.  Is it difficult just to remove and flip 180*?
