My 74 Charger has a 9.25 axle with 3.23 gears and one wheel peel. This rear end came out of a 77 New Yorker. I want to install a posi, and was going to search the swap meets and junk yards in our area for a posi carrier, and was wondering does anyone know what years fit into this 77 rear? I know that the 9.25 was used for a long time but I don't know if the carriers from the newer 9.25 will fit into my read end. If anyone knows that would be great as it will make my searching easier. Thanks

The Sure-Grip (not "posi") carrier is the same from '69-'00
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

There aren't many limited slip differentials made for the 9 1/4" axle when compared to the other axles out there.
Just so you know, many Mopar guys prefer to use the term: SURE GRIP because it was the correct name that Chrysler and Mopar used when talking about the "Two wheel Peel" differentials. The term "Posi" is very popular to use, but in truth, it was a name that Chevrolet used. Ford had traction Lok, Pontiac had Saf-T-Track, etc. Some Ford guys also get pissed when someone says their 9 inch axle has a "posi".
The principal is the same.... An internal mechanism of the differential existed to transmit power to BOTH wheels. Back to the original topic, the Track-Lock differential is cheap and fairly durable. I have the original one in my 140,000 mile '07 RAM 1500 truck. It still works as new. They are rebuildable. If you are on the cheap side, (Who ISN'T ??) you can pull a diff from a truck and have it rebuilt. otherwise, they are about $350 new.
