My friend Ilkka who got the Camaro lives in the US 4 months a year so the car's staying there for his use. RK Motors Charlotte. He is not registered here & asked me not to write more about it here, soo.... My point was, Atlas Muscle Cars are a few leagues below Ilkka's league (mind you I was surprised to see him lash out in such manner  :o)

My Charger's bondo vs metal scoreline is not hopeless, but plenty of other things to go through  :Twocents:
it's a very short life so let's try & enjoy ourselves

I just want to chime in on atlas muscle cars. That 70 rt that is on here was my car and from the outside it looks great but on the inside it was crap  I spent $52, 000 on that car. It's real sad when they use 40 some yr old foum on the seats over rusty seat frames. With rust bleeding through. And use black tar as a gasket for wiper motor and on the go wing. They just did a horse shit job. I wouldn't bring my hot wheels to these guys. They are just a bunch of lying ass holes. And they will stab you in the back and take your money all the way to the bank. Sorry so mad but that place is a rip off so stay away. :flame:

Although I've never bought a car from a "resto dealer" I have checked out a few of the cars. Universally I found that the cars were over rated, over priced and poorly built.

Individual car owner know the history, warts and the good. I have been lucky to have dealt with honest people; they wanted their baby to go to a good home.

I am not sure if it was the one or not. They told me it was a nut and bolt restoration but when I was driving it to the uhaul place the tranny blew up and tried to blame me what a joke. Also paint cracked by back Window and on the sides. This place is a joke if I were you guys I would stay away. Please pass the word before they rip some body else off.  :flame:

I restored concourse level cars from 2007-2012 and I wouldn't buy a matchbox car from a used classic dealer.

I was involved with some rework on a mid six figure car purchased from a very well known high profile dealer who claimed to build the car in their own shop.

This was the work of the 'best of the best'. I can't in good conscience recommend anyone buy from a used classic dealer without a thorough inspection from a trusted third party.

The little guys are even worse. On the same level as the auctions.

Yeah, it seems the classic dealers come in nearly just two styles.  Good cars but with a crazy ultra rare flashing lights and balloons style ad to justify the insane amount of money they want for it.  Or... the bottom feeders dressed like Herb Tarlick who take anything they can get and while the price may seem cheap, it ends up being a lot of money for bondo.

A12 Superbee

I almost bought the black 70 Charger they had for sale there about 18 months ago, I think it was a V code car for $52k.

The pics of the car looked great but there was something about it that i just could not put my finger on but i'd say the amount of paint in the engine bay was one alarm bell, that black was everywhere and it looked real thick too!

I'm in Australia so it would have been a sight unseen purchase with no recourse if I was not happy with the car.....which it sounds like I would have been so pretty glad I stumbled on an A12 Superbee for slightly less money! :icon_smile_big:

I have been fighting the urge to go look at the 69 440 4 speed 500 they have.  It is listed as "unrestored" so I suppose it may have not had the treatment some here are complaining about.  Nonetheless, being brown on brown (and $90k) precluded me from driving up there, yet.  Here it is:

Atlas does have a few BBB consumer complaints but a) I think the BBB only has so much credibility and b) the complaints seem to me to be buyer error more than atlas' fault, for what its worth.  Their BBB listing is here:

After reading this whole thread I am left with a sense that buying an old muscle car is like strolling through a mine field.

The bottom line is that a buyer has the handycap and duty to judge the car in detail before purchase and if they don't do this they have to live with what they bought.

It is also true that what seems to be a good deal is for a reason. Usually something is missing from the picture.

We all like to think we can find a treasure and are prompted by the tales that it can happen.

So in this hobby when a car is available for sale who has the greater obligation to finish the deal?

Should the seller need to know all the details of the car.  (That could be a high expectation.)

Or is the bulk of the responsibility for a fair deal on the buyer?

My take is the buyer is the driver.  If they come into a deal in the back seat they are not driving. :eek2:

Just some thoughts.  After working on my car for a few years and reading about others it seems that there is no way to do a first class restoration on these cars and then sell it for a profit.  Most or all of us do this because of our desire to own something unique.  Those lucky enough to find a well restored car at a decent price (they are out there) are few.   Buying from a place like Atlas (I don't know anything about them) has all sorts of problems but I wouldn't expect a bargain or ever a good deal.  Bottom line... don't expect a lot, don't get emotional about the car and don't gripe about it once the deal is done (it only makes your life harder and the seller could care less.)

Edit, ws23rt beat me to a bunch of stuff.

so to put it basically " buyer beware "   always do your homework   :yesnod:

The 69 440 4 speed is un restored and in not bad shape but not worth $90k it needs some work. :RantExplode:

I was interested in one of their cars a few years ago. At the time I think they had 3 2nd gen cars in the 30K – 50K range. My spider senses went up when they were all done up almost identically – black with a red stripe. Seemed like a puppy mill for black chargers. I talked to them a bit and was about to send an inspector to check one out, but did a little internet digging first. Didn't find much about the quality of their restorations, but there was a lot of chatter about a Camero they sold with different motor than advertised. In the end, decided to pass.

Since I have looked a several cars online and came very close on one. I hired an inspector, and a near perfect driver quality numbers 68 Charger turned out to be quite the opposite. Point is, a $250.00 inspection is well worth every penny when you get to it in person. Hell, the car I finally bought, I was able to look at in person, but still hired an inspector to go back after and verify everything because I didn't trust myself.

as always buyer beware and DC is always willing to help..you got experts here that's for damn sure.

It is such a dwindling market. Makes it extremely difficult to find what you want. Just remember to have plenty of cash in reserve to fix the things you don't like or were misrepresented. Checking out the dealer here was a very wise first step/

They currently are selling this on fleabay........

Looks pretty good in the pictures, but when I see things something as blatant as the screwed up stripe & 2 foot long exhaust tips, it really makes me wonder about other things. And at that price, once again, it should be darned near perfect.

1974dodgecharger

Not a concourse kind of man, but WTF the strip is off like our turbin resident said, damn.

I guess adding a hemi engine adds over 100k value.
