Talking to my dad on the phone this morning and I find out he had to get himself in the ER Friday night. Seems he fell asleep sometime friday and woke up in such a pain he couldn't stop SCREAMING. He said it sounded like someone was putting a power drill into his ear! He said he never felt such a pain. My dad has broken many bones and I've never heard him EVER scream in pain from anything.

Now my dad lives about an hour outside of town. So he jumped into his car and started driving for town. About half way he said the pain eased off a little and finally got into the ER.

Turned out a BEETLE had crawled into his ear while he was sleeping! The doctor first tried using really warm water to flush it out and then when the beetle released it's grip he yanked it out with a pair tweezers.

The doctor said the hearing loss in that ear should be temporary.

He's fine now, the ear is still a little sore and he's still got partial hearing loss in that ear.

Wow! I always worry about that stuff. I used to sleep wit hear plugs in to prevent that. But I don't do that now cause I heard ear plugs can get loged into the ear too  :P

Glad he is ok :2thumbs:

Damn that's weird stuff, good thing it's all over... Hope he's better soon...  I remember a Twilite Zone episode "I think it was", were they put an earwig/pincher bug in a guys ear for torture & it was supposed to be extremely painfull, but the worst part was after the earwig crawled out, he was relieved, but he found out it had laid eggs... That freaked me out when I was a little kid in the 60's....

Glad hes ok now. A few years ago our son was having hearing problems, so we took him to a specialist. Ran the usual tests, and nothing. Dr. took him in a room, took out  a thin metal thing that looked like a crochet hook. He dug around for a bit and pulled out a huge wax covered bug! Yuck! His hearing is just fine now, but that was gross!

Isn't there some sort of statistic or something somewhere that states that most people will swallow a certain amount of spiders and insects during sleep over the course of their lifetime?  Gross...

Yes, but 88% of statistics are only 45% true.
