I wanted to put new glass the front and back as part of my restoration.  My car had the windshield tinted and all the other was clear.  I've read the threads on glass.  Called Pilkington in Ohio who told me that they have the glass in tinted but not clear.  They said that all glass, including theirs, is thinner than the original.  Told me that Pilkington bought LOF and I assume that they are the actual ones making the glass (but don't know that for sure).  $125 for windshield.  $385 for back.  $110 shipping if shipped to a business.  Can't get from local Pilkington glass place (although they can receive it).  Called AMD.  Their glass is made for them in Taiwan.  Said that it it made to original spec including thickness.  Has pentastar logo (which I don't really care about).  AMD windshield is $249 and back is $360 and you can get both in either tint or clear.  Their is a $30 box fee for each piece but they will sell it out the back door unboxed if you want to take the risk.

I've read the testimonials on how good the Pilkington product is.  What about the AMD.  Does anyone have any experience with their glass.  I found one thread while surfing with Google where the guy said the AMD metal was the best but their glass was no good.  Let me hear from all.  I may go to AMD tomorrow.

I just did a bunch of research on this very subject not long ago and my conclusion is...
AMD has very good windshield glass, it's the side glass that can be warped and the rear glass has tempering marks (but all repro back glass seems to have these marks)

Thanks guys.  I think that answers my questions.  Looks like the AMD glass will be fine for my project.

How serious of a warping problem does the side glass have?

Does it still fit & seal reasonably well, or is it one of those aggravating resto parts that looks good but is basically non-functional if you intend to drive the car in the real world?

Are we talking about a few items getting shipped in bad shape, or are we talking about every copy of that item they sell having the same problem?  I'm guessing it's the latter with glass.

I went to AMD's new facility yesterday.  They moved from Flowery Branch to Buford, GA.  Just down the road about 10 miles.  Good day to make a drive there from Chattanooga.  Their new warehouse looks a lot like the old one except the warehouse part is bigger.  I called them ahead of time and they had my order already boxed and ready to go.  They said that the extra warehouse room they had is rapidly filling up with more and more pieces.   Very nice folks to do business with.  Sure am glad I am close enough to drive there and not deal with shipping costs (fuel costs keep driving this up) and inevitable shipping damage issues.  We are lucky that AMD has repoped all these nice metal pieces for Mopars.  If they had not done this, we would be at the mercy of Goodmark and others whose panels never seemed to fit properly and be poorly stamped.  Having these parts available makes it so much easier to bring our beloved old Mopars back from the grave.  And we need to save as many as we can since it's obvious that they will never make these again----we are entering into a 4cyl grocery getter jelly mold "smart car" world.

I always wondered how I'd go about getting new glass for these cars if the need ever arose.  Now I know...
