Should choke heater switch get hot to the touch?

I've got a choke heater switch on my 73 and I'm not sure if it's working. It's getting power. But it's not heating up after a few minutes. Should it be warm if you touch it with the key on and just power on, not running? Or does it only work when the engine runs?

If you have an electric choke and the power is on, there should be power running to it.  Does the choke come off after a few minutes?

The electric-assist choke heater won't work unless the engine is running, the oil pressure sender has to send a signal to the choke controller...this prevents the heater from running if you leave the key in RUN with the engine off.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Never knew that.  Does that apply to aftermarket carbs with an electric choke as well or just oem?

John, as far what I know and have checked on electric diagrams, the electric choke source going throught the oil switch its a lates 70s stuff and later, not up to 74 at least.

the earliers are simply an splice from the RUN circuit, without the oil sender in the middle

CAN BE ADDED though, using the 3 prongs oil sender. Still will be sourced from RUN circuit but going to the oil sender first and JUST when oil is sensed, going ahead up to the choke control
