I was just wondering what if we start a thread on imporving our English, mainly whos first language isn't it!
I read a lot of books in English but sometimes i have trouble with grammar when writing!

What if some of you put some tricky or difficult grammar question out here and we answer them!

Maybe it is a stupid idea but i would give it a go!I will go first!

If someone would be kind enough to explain the differenc between these i would thank him/her!

Sentense1:I'm looking forward hearing from you!
2:I'm looking forward to hear from you!

Which one is correct and why?

Next: America ___ by native people who viewed it as their homeland.

a,inhabited b,was inhabited c, was habitat d,was habituated

Right answer is b, isn't it

Thank you,

Fred

The correct grammar is
I look forward to hearing from you.

is inhabited (present)
was inhabited (past)

To habituate is to get used to something.
And habitat is a region or invironment.

And we're off to a good start!  :2thumbs:

Nothing wrong with "I'm looking forward to hearing from you" either.

As for which is correct and why?
Well sometimes it's just because....
I'm sure the English teacher will come and throw in his 1.8 cents worth (I'm allowing for the exchange rate)

Gotta love a '69

Anne, I vote more cars race Rome to Vienna

Straw? No, too stupid a fad; I put soot on warts

If you want confusing try this, "I helped my uncle Jack, off his horse" or try it without capitals and punctuation and see what you get, english is full of slangs and multi-meaning words. If you arent english from the get go it will be a challenge for quit a while, i still find it difficult at times, but i wish yall luck

nh_mopar_fan

If you don't get it, you could have a problem....

I worked with this Mexican guy that was learning English by watching TV and reading English/Spanish dictionaries. He would say things like..." Can you borrow me your hammer?" I let it slide. He was making an effort and I respected him for that. I respect any immigrant that comes here to make a better life while learning this difficult language.

cavemanno1

Here is one i made up!If the grammar is wrong you are free to correct me!

I met a girl who had Androphobia,
She was close me to having Cacophobia,
but because my Cremiophobia,
i overlooked her Coitophobia,
because i didn't have Hedonophobia,
she helped me with my Mastrophobia
the good part is she also had Gynophobia,
not to mention her Maieusiophobia!

My lack of Dipsophobia help me getting through
writing this absolute melancholia!

So what did i want to say here in plain English!

I bet you can tell I'm not right in the head and have too much time on my hand! :slap:
