Custom cam grinding

Ok, I know I'm going to catch some s**t for asking this, but.  From whom, might I buy cam blanks?  I'd like to try to cut a few custom grinds.  I have all the machinery to do it, just don't know where to buy the blanks.

Why, you ask?  Just because I want to learn how to do it.

Sounds like a lot of work, but I suppose it can be done if you're determined to do so.

I didn't realize how much is involved in camshaft lobe design until I started having problems with my Poly318's cam.  Then I found out more than I ever wanted to know about ramp speeds, and degrees of slope on the lobe (to spin the lifter for proper wear/lubrication).  I found out the hard way what happens if you grind one through the parkerized material too.  Yuck...
