I always have thought I had a problem on ring and pinion adjustment, but....

I have had a noise like a turbine noise which is louder when not giving gas than giving gas. I dunno actually how to describe the noise. I dunno f you have heard an industrial Lathe sometime in your life, but sounds like that.

Two nights ago, I was at highway going down a hill in Drive gear, without give gas just letting go the car at 55-60 miles by the tranny keeping the car. Its a very dangerous section of the highway to give gas to the car to go faster, specially with stock old kind brakes so, I preffer to keep the car with tranny and keep the brakes cold. For whatever reason I put the car in Neutral and the noise went away... then put in D back and noise came back

so... it looks something is wrong on Tranny instead ring and pinion adjustment  ?

if so... why appeared when I installed my new 3.55 gears and not before ? at least as far I noticed

Beside that I have had since EVER as far I recall, a HARD vibration when going close to 110 mph or faster what is kinda periodic... something like RRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr. Below that speed I can't feel anything, but getting close to 110 miles appears and gets worst as far I try to go faster. Is able even to shake everything on car

Is there a chance both deals have a common problem inside the tranny ?

With the car in neutral there is no load on the coast side of the ring & pinion..., it still could be, too tight/loose on the coast side of the gears {not enough or too much free play}, a carrier &/or pinion bearings, the universals, trans output bushing &/or bearings or even a wheel bearing like mentioned above

well, I installed everything new when I changed to 3.55 and SG, and got the noise.

I gave the axle to an expert on axle stuff, and things didn't change much.

the tranny vibration has been there since I have memory, inlcuding when it was the original open and 3.23

so...when did the whirring noise show up, before or after the 3.55 gear install?

right after that... yes, logics dictates its a ring and pinion deal, not tranny, just was thinking out loud.

THIS IS ANNOYING

trans output bushing &/or bearings

this is why I asked. Both problems could be at this moment related somehow :shruggy:

if noise started right after, then it's a ring & pinion lash problem...it will not be the trans or bushings
