So from that are we to assume Chrysler products will be made in Detroit from now on? Because I don't really see how we're going to effectively turn things around if only the white collar guys in the US are bringing paychecks home from Chrysler. I mean, the ad does a great job of stirring up some emotions but why do they keep saying "Imported from Detroit" when pretty much all of Chrysler's products are made in Mexico and/or Canada?

Really??

So should I change "pretty much all" to "many"? I think my point is still valid in that "Imported from Detroit" is a misnomer. If they're going to be honest they need to say Imported from Detroit, Ontario and Saltillo. I see all the Hemis and most of the trucks are made in Mexico. That's pretty screwed up.

Chrysler should be applauded for their patriotism and class for creating such a powerful message.

I hope they follow-up with this momentum and recapture market share and loyalty for our big Detroit three

At least its within the North American continent and the profits return to Michigan.  Thats a helluva lot more than you can say for a lot of the other places where people spend their car buying dollar.
It's a great commercial.

nh_mopar_fan

The best commercial of the night. What a terrible crop of ads they were.

I agree it's a very emotionally-charged ad, but emotion in advertising tends to work hard at avoiding reality. So after the hankerchiefs dry and the flag-waving stops we might do well to look at the the facts and realize that while SOME of the money stays in the US, a lot of the blue collar paychecks or "rubber-meets-the-road" wages are being spent by people nowhere near Detroit. Chrysler should just drop this BS altogether or be honest about its "global" dealings instead of giving us the 'ol mushroom treatment.

I can only hope you are just as vocal about that Bull when Toyota is bragging about how American they are (which seems to happen every now and again).

I am vocal about it. I've made that very point several times here. Don't think I'm anti-Chrsyler or anti-American because I'm not. They left the US, not me.

Fair enough.  If it helps, Chrysler has had plants in Canada almost since there was a Chrysler.  In fact the Dodge Brothers had one of their earliest businesses set up in Windsor and then moved back into the US later.  For that matter, the first permanent home built in my hometown was built by Walter P's grandfather.  Socialist government aside we should get a partial pass for that.

Everything Clint does is EPIC  :popcrn:
:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

He will ALWAYS be my favorite actor.

BTW, I tend to think that was inspired by Clint's movie Gran Torino. After all, he was a retired auto worker. Coincidence?

The whole "Imported From Detroit" campaign is about the Chrysler 200 and the legacy of Detroit where it is assembled. Even in the current Clint commercial, it's still about Detroit and the hard times they have been through and are seemingly rising up from. You've been tricked if you think they are directly speaking about anything else.

Chrysler's ad guys are most certainly trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by making us FEEL that Chrysler is  somehow a more American, or is becoming more American of a car company. But nowhere in these ads are they coming right out and saying it. It's the typical smoke and mirrors of advertising.

The ad definitely brings up some emotions. Then you switch from your heart to your brain and realize like all of them, it's just Clint pulling a big paycheck to read a script, and a high dollar ad agency using every trick up their sleeve to elevate their clients status and product and separate you from your dollar.

And..... The Fiat commercial was the best of the game.

Have to agree with Bull on this one. I work in U.S. manufacturing factory, my paycheck depends on guys upstairs, who make decisions to outsource or to keep my job in U.S. I try my best at my job however when myself or my helper bring up issues that need fixing our supervisor tells us "it is what it is"  I even got a t-shirt with that slogan to wear to work. I'm sorry to say it but most U.S. workers are just "not feeling it" and just wish for those 10hours to be soon over with.

Well said.

I think this was THE BEST commercial of the game. :2thumbs:

I saw the ad twice and both times I felt the tickle in my nose and the sense of getting choked up.
Great work by Clint and Chrysler. AOL news reported that Al Pacino was also considered.
