Hi Peeps,

Im wondering how much "bulge" there would be with 295 50 15 tires on 10" wheels? Kinda need to know exact if someone could measure. Im hoping none or very little.

I have a 73 Rallye charger and im putting in a ford 9" rear,, its 4" narrower then the 9 1/4 that is the car. I would like to use a 10" wheel with the standard 4.25 backspacing. Should move the edge of the wheel out 2" on each side making up the 4" difference so the tires wont stick out of the fender wells and should be in the same place they are now.

Problem is the spring will be closer on the inside. All calculations are that there should be 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" of clearance Clarence from the leaves (3/4 to 9/16" on each side) to the tires but this will depend on bulge.

I dont want to relocate the springs (if I can help it) so anyone have a bulge measurement?  :nana:

A 10" rim is the "ideal" size for a 295/50 tire. Should have little to no sidewall buldge

I run an 8" wide wheel which is the minimum width for a 295/50...has some sidewall bulge

Looking at the front rim/tire you will see no sidewall bulge....this is a 245/60 tire & an 8" rim which is the "ideal" size for a 245/60

Do no about the 295's but I have a 71 with 5" shorter Dana, 10" rims, N50 15 with bulge  :nana: and touching the leaves from time 2 time.  :icon_smile_big:

i am using 275/50 s on 17x9 with 5" backspace on stock 8 3/4. that setup gives 1/4 to the wheel well lip on outside and about 1" to the leaves on inside.

and i have about 1/4" bulge of tire to rim. your 295 should be even less than that per side.

A bit of bulge is a good thing, that's the look of the era. I wouldn't think the bulge of a tire would affect the clearance of a tire as the carcass doesn't change in size with rim size, as long as the tire and backspacing remain a constant with the rim being the only variable.

Remember 295 is the tread width, not the section width or overall tire width. The closer the section/overall width is to the tread width the more clearance you will have (less sidewall bulge at the same time). This means that you might be able to fit a 295 tire from brand A, but brand B's 295 wont fit.
