Vintage American Beer Cans

I was over at a mates place the other night having a quiet few beers and some cartalk and had a bit of a look through his old beercan collection, some cool ones in there, probably most are over 20-25years old, just picked out a few pics
The "Billy" one is endorsed by Billy Carter, maybe he knew his beer when he saw it

These ones were a bit different though, I thought it was cool that a brewer would put a message on the can to "do their part"

I see you're from New Zealand. Is this collection in New Zealand too? Hard to believe Iron City beer could be an import.

Are the pics taken at the same time? Either there are 2 Fury's or the same one at different points of restoration. I also see a hardtop Caddy and a 'vert Caddy. That's a nice garage full of fins.

Yes, same time., good spotting , 58 Fury with the dual carbs, 59 DeSoto Adventurer ( full resto required -just about need donor car, probably Fireflite or similar  if someone can help or knows) 59 Cadillac Coupe de Ville and a rare as 59 Cadillac Biarritz
Fin-o-mania. That Fury rocks , sporting originalish buckskin beige paint and got cutouts as well
I went to a party there a while back with my old 68 Charger parked on the lawn and felt quite small and insignificant due to all the Mighty Fin cars parked up in the driveway and street. If guys didnt bring their cars, then they brought along photos of their resto's. One of the other guys has probably the most beautiful 57 Fury on the planet.
Real cool stuff and they just live it. Another guy has an immaculate black 60 Imperial Le Baron and another guy has a 60 300F, it really turned me on to them, would love to own a Finned beauty of my own.

I remember when Billy Beer and Generic Beer came out within a few years of each other. They were your typical light American lagers and did not stick around for long. Nothing really distinctive or special about them. They were a lot like Buckhorn, Bud, Hamms, etc. etc. etc. And speaking of American lagers, remember: "You're never to drunk to ask for another Schlitz!".

Yeah they are cool cars and good people that own them. We've got a big camping/weekender carshow coming up in a few weeks , will be getting plenty of pics , really looking forward to it

Cool thread... Not too many of us beer can collectors...... Here's a little piece of my world. I have about 3 hundred displayed with another 200 or so still in the attic to be displayed once more shelving gets built...

1. Oldest American I have: An Old German "cone top"... '35-'40's..
2. A little corner of my garage..

That's an impressive amount of beer cans. I've got a couple hundred or so I collected 30+ years ago. If any of you guys are interested in them, send me a note.

I found the great falls one a couple weeks ago and a friend brought by this fat cat cold and full a couple years ago and they taste like

Think I got about 3,000+ beer cans. Many older cone tops & flat tops from the 1930's. I'm Interested to buy any older (pre1970) anybody may have for sale. Pay top $$ too. LEON.

I have a decent collection.  Did you know the first beer can was a flat top Krueger.  It needed a church key opener and people did not know how to open them so they went to cone or bottle tops so people could use a bottle opener.

I got one of the first Krueger flat tops from 1935. The reason some used cones tops was a smaller brewery could fill the cone top on the same bottling line. Flat tops required a new exspensive canning line. LEON.

my dad worked for a can company for 35 years  i have most of the cans  made in the seventies  i have the test cans for billy beer that were used to line up the label only about a handful made  have all the iron city can and the schmidt wildlife series any one hear of big butt beer ill have to try an get photos
