Hello,

gonna throw a new bump stick in the LOW COMPRESSION 383... assuming all is stock, 40yrs of unknown history! Right now i have 128-135psi accost the cylinders (engine warm throttle open). Currently the 383 a Weiland 8008 action plus intake, edlebrock 600cfm 4bbl, headman headers to a x'd piped 2.5 exhaust, otherwise bone stock engine. Right now the rear end has 3.23, but will be changing to 3.55 or 3.73(ish).

Right now I'm thinking the Voodoo 302 camshaft, or maybe one of those hughes cams, made for low compression engines, but I have read the reviews here, and they don't seem to impressive....So please throw in your suggestions please, no answer will be refused!!!

Oh ya, the heads were redone by a local shop about 5000mi ago, new valves/valve job, no porting tho, also ill be reusing the valve train that is in place, springs were new with head work, tho I do not know anything about them, this is just a quick cheap cam swap, cam, lifters, timing chain, nothing else!! Just going for a little more oomph, while I'm building my stroker....but that wont be complete for a while yet  :'(

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Not to burst your bubble, but I would seriously swap out the LC heads for some 906 or better before even going any further. if you didn't port your stock valve ports, they won't breath near as well. sounds like your trying to make a decent 383 HP outtta that engine.  :Twocents:

A cam with a short overlap will help build compression , the 302 Lunati should do well . Depending what year 383 you may already have the 906 heads , swapping to 516 or 915 could help but you just freshened the heads & will be building a stroker later so why bother
