Found a '69 Charger R/T, seller says it has a black interior, is in primer ready to paint, 440 automatic on the console (non numbers matching), non-AC car, possibly originally black exterior.  I guess the mom or parents are tired of paying the son's bills and she said he needs to learn to pay them so they are selling his car. Also she said the son took out the dash board and didn't put it in exactly straight. I asked her if it had the woodgrain on the console and the dash board and she said no, so it probably isn't an SE car, but she did say it was a real R/T. I may drive out and see it this weekend and take some pictures. They want $15,000. Seems like a lot to me for a car in primer, even if it was a real R/T.

Well see what they would entertain as an offer.  I will say if most of the work has been done, MOTOR, TRANNY, REAR, and looks good that is not that far off the mark.  If you were to PRICE haveing all of what was done thus far you maybe well over the 15,000 mark again depending on what was done.

She was not sure what year the engine is either. And she's turned down offers of 12k so far.

Well I would get more info.  What was done BODY WORK.... good job or just mud.  Look in the trunk and to the top of the quaters.  Look in the front fenders.

I do not think it is un worth the price, but it better be fairly good as you do not want to do A LOT more work for that price.  But a running driving car is nice.

Certain codes make make is more valuable what is the color, interior exterior, stripe vinyl top, etc,

do you know someone who offered 12k or did she tell you she turned down that amount.  If she told you that, I would probably tell her I can only go 12k and see what she says.  I tend to agree 15k sounds a tad high for a non # car that may or may not be an R/T that needs work inside and out.  I would also check the electrical out if the dash was out and is still not installed properly, they may be trying to hide some problems.  Of course if I had 12k to spend I would probably buy another project instead of finishing one of the ones I have.  This hobby is a sickness :rotz:

Not that it matters a whole lot but, 1969 consoles should have the woodgrain regardless of whether it is an SE or not. There might be some real early build date cars got the ribbed type.

Unless the body was just slapped with mud, 15k isn't really off the mark too much.  Running driving 440 RT?  Sucks that they've gotten that high but it's the way it is.   Really depends on how fresh the drivetrain is and how good the body is.  If the body was done fairly well, 15k isn't bad.  Shoot a 4k paint job on it and you'd probably get more than 20k for it.  Just my two cents.  :Twocents:

Cars don't seem to go for much around here, people don't want to pay that much for them anyway.

There was a '68 Charger R/T I knew about back two or three years ago that was for sale. Non numbers car, console auto, 440, no grille or hood, needed a quarter panel replacement, other minor body work. Original silver exterior, red stripe, black top, and black interior. The interior was pretty complete and fairly original, but used with lots of wear.

I talked to the seller on that car and he bluntly told me that he knew what these cars were worth, and he wasn't going to just give it away. Hearing that, and already having a nice '68 Charger R/T of my own (and four fastback Chargers at the time), I passed the info on to a friend who just got interested in Chargers. I thought the seller would want four or five thousand for it, but the friend bought the car for $2200.

I bet I know the friend who got that SilverR/T Charger..... ;)

There are still deals to be had out there. The problem is they are much harder to find and you don't have time to think about it anymore when they do come up. 2 1/2 years ago I missed out on a package deal gold '68 R/T, blue '68 383 4bbl and gold '68 383 2bbl advertised in the local paper. All of the cars were complete except the R/T had the fenders taken off. I called the guy and ran over to look at them quick. He was asking $4,500 for all three but, I know he would have taken less. I hesistated because I was in the middle of the '69 resto and needed three more like a hole in the head. Well, I went home to think about it. The next weekend I called back and they were sold already.  :'(
