Hey guys so im not sure of the correct name of this part but it came off the steering box, I thought it would have been a grease fitting but i don't see the nipple to pump it in, Is this factory correct and if so should i replace it seeing as its 42 years old (69 charger) the ball joint itself seems to rotate fine.. any thoughts??

It's a pitman arm and after 42 years I would definitely get a new one.

Thanks, i thought the pitman arms are attached to the tie rods then to the lower control arm?

Fred

The idler arm is attached to the steering linkages and to the K-frame.

There's supposed to be a hole in the silver cap (2nd pic) where you would install a grease fitting. Where'd it go?

If you can rotate the taper with your hand, it's too loose and likely worn out. When new they're pretty stiff.

I believe that the 69 uses the small sector box.  That part wasn't available for a while but is now from Rare Parts, Inc.  You can actually order directly from them and save some money if you become a "dealer" which you can do online.  O/W, I think Autozone handles this line.  And if you are replacing this, then you would want to replace the idler arm at the same time.

I had a 72 Satellite /6 with 29,000 miles on it, came from the factory with no grease Zerk's in anything.

I'll have to check some originals...
