Hey guys, Ive been doing a bunch of work on the 68' and its time to start hanging quarters. Just to get you up to date, I had the rear end of the car down to nothing. Put in a set of complete rear frame rails from out west, fixed the rear inner and outer sections of the rockers, patched in outer wheel housings, fixed the inner lower wheel housings, put in a new 1 piece AMD trunk floor, a new AMD rear crossmember, and I just welded in AMD trunk floor extensions. Im reusing the original tail light panel, and dutchman panel. The problem that I seem to be having is when I put the quarters into place, the fitment is great, but there is a small gap that im having at the trunk extension to the wheel opening flange. The gap seems to fade a little into the outer wheelhouse as well. My instinct is to slice the wheelhouse and the trunk extension and move the flange over to the quarter flange, but I just wanted to make sure Im not missing any tips or tricks. Oh and its like this on both sides but its a little worse on the passenger side. Thanks for any help:

First two pics show the gap:

And these pics show the quarter in place and how every other place seems to line up:

So from what I gather you are saying is the trunk drop off where it meets the bottom of the quarter is too short? Its kind of hard to tell in the pics.

That is correct. The inner wheel well fits flush with the quarter all the way around except for mabye the last inch or two on the back of the opening and then the gap continues al lthe way through the trunk extension...

yes think thats the only way now splice it & extend it a little  , as its already welded on !!
what about the gap between the the quarter & the top of the trunk floor extension drop off , hard to tell in the picture,  but it should be about  1/2" gap all the way along
Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

The gap is consistant along the edge, the angle of the lights throws a shadow that makes it look off in the pic. The extension seems to line up dead on everywhere else that its supposed to. It rests right on the rear crossmember, it follows the incline of the trunk floor, and the stamping that is on it up at the wheel house that continues fron the trunk floor is right on as well. I have no problem cutting and splicing (Im a fabricator at a hot rod shop, lol), but I just didnt know if anybody had some suggestions that mabye I was missing. So far everything is lining up surprisingly well considering the metal from the doors back is 90% aftermarket....

Had the same problem with trunk extensions that were from Shermans.  Had a little less gap than what you have.   What we did was bend that metal down a little bit where it mated to the bottom of the quarter, clamped it  and then spot welded every 6 inches.  This was on a trunk floor that me and friend replaced in his 68 Roadrunner.  Make sure your trunk floor is on level and sitting straight.  If it's sitting a little higher that's going to make your trunk extensions sit higher.  That could be what your problem is.  As a friend of mine said to me the other day, these reproduction parts are just reverse engineered from existing parts.  So, some things may not fit perfectly.

Just a heads up,be sure to install the rear window trim and check fit.I've used quarters from amd :2thumbs: on a couple of cars and they all had to be played with .the worst one was a 68 runner every thing lined up dead nuts, when the trim went in I fond the stampeding was 1/2inch off.

thanks guys. All of the sheetmetal that Im replacing is from AMD, except the quarters. The quarters are Classic Body Designs. Overall, Im happy with the fit and finish with both companies' products. I definitely expected to be tweaking some stuff here and there along the way, but this issue made me come to you guys because I wasnt sure if I could do something that I havent done yet or havent thought of to atleast make that gap a little smaller. Im gonna mess around with it and see what I can come up with, but I have a feeling that either way, Im gonna have to take the cut off wheel and welder to it....
