You know Mike, I wished you never updated today. At 8:00 AM I was getting ready to head outside to work on my 1968 Road Runner that I have owned for 40 years and Mon and Dad bought new but I came across your post and could not stop reading it!  :popcrn:

If you and your son had happen to came by and handle me like you did  the gentleman with the Wing cars you would have more than likely have gotten her.

Little back ground. It was around 8 years ago I finally got burned out on cars. That in it self in long story Could not get the Road Runner started so she sat out side and I got into a new hobby that covers my 2 car garage.

I had my fair share of idiots come by and asked me about the old Plymouth sitting out side. More than a few thought I was going to be stupid and take $500.00 for her.

Guess it was about 3 months ago I found another note on her asking if she was for sale? For the heck of it, I gave the guy a call and he came by with cash in hand. I wanted to talk about my baby, he wanted to make a deal! He throw down a fair amount offer in cash then raised it again a little. Kept telling him there was not a for sale sign on the car but at this point I was wondering if I had one last car left in my old bones but all so knew I had not thought about touching her for years! So I was thinking about it?  :shruggy:

Here is where he lost the deal!

1 Kept offering me money

2 I said If I sell her, I want to know she will be done in her factory color and nothing bigger than a 15" wheel.

3 Said he was going to use the same kind of wheels I have on her now,(which I like) But was going to use A Ford Color With Metal Flake and Flames!

His parting words where When I buy it from you I will keep it till I am in the grave!

I pointed out that was my plan as well!  :nana:

Basically a complete rebody  :P

Agreed,....I'm sorry but when a vehicle gets boned that much for repair, it's still a rebody even if original/NOS parts were used in the reconstruction, it's just easier and more cost/time effective to roll a clean donor next to it, and transfer anything salvageable onto it, to even consider that car somewhat "original" anymore is foolhardy, more than 75% of the original main body is gone, what a waste of time/labour :Twocents:

I, personally, can still appreciate the fact that they are saving the car.  Yes, it may be 75% new repro metal but the soul of the car and the nostalgia is what matters to me.  These cars aren't going to be produced ever again and with time taking its toll on the ones that are left, more and more of them are going to be like this whether we like it or not.  Should the fact that its been repaired to this extent be hidden, definitely not.  However, with posting this on the internet and having the work done at a shop with a national TV series, I don't think transparency is going to be an issue.

i looked at this car in person before the restoration and the metal was rough, but in the long run it will be another wing car saved. rebodied? I don't think so, more like resurrected.. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Not gonna get into the whole re-body or still considered the same car argument...because to ME...the car IS the same car, it retains its original frame, basic structure, engine, tranny, rearend, etc., It dosent bother me one bit if people consider it a rebody, re pop, or real bird...ITS MY CAR... it wont be for sale, ( at least in my lifetime, and its built for driving,...it only matters to the "pureist" that it has had most of the metal replaced, )in MY book,  its was a SUPERBIRD, AND WILL ALWAYS BE A SUPERBIRD.

got to ask..... if your dad or a family member was in a bad accident and had to have artificial legs and arms put on......would they STILL be your dad?..... just food for thought... (cause these cars are my "kids" now)

good answer. and as you say, the car will never leave your grasp.

i remember a long conversation about a burnt orange 69 charger that also went down that road. but in the end what matters is who owns it and what they plan to do with it.

enjoy the cars with your son. thats the perfect ending. many here would love that relationship with our own dads, or sons. :2thumbs:
