Great pics. can you save the nose cone? Great to start with a complete car. Can't wait to see more.

someone asked if the nose was usable .....no..i could not reuse the nose on the red car.... However I did find another original steel nose for the resto.

This thread is one of my favorites! BTW Nice Charger, looks good with the Superbird wing. Do you still have it?

That charger was the Daytona clone my son and I were working on when we went to take pics of how the nose went on (In my story).
we did finish it, and sold it to generate money to start the Red bird's restoration.
heres a pic of the finished daytona clone.... ( no window plug)...but nice

ok... this picture is one of my favorites, it was taken the next day after getting the cars home. you may see it posted a couple more times on other pages.... Im leading up to a BEFORE and After Pic.
(when we got the Fully restored red car back, we pulled it into the exact same spot, and retook the same pose ...its a cool pic that ill post when i get to the end of this thread. ) it will also show how long it took to  get this car back. (my son is almost two feet taller than in the original pic)... as stated, Ill post the before and after pic later..

I know the previous owner was aware of what he had as far as rarity and value, but was he really aware of how far these cars had actually deteriorated? I don't imagine he was out there every week inspecting his cars, so I just wondered if he was suprised to see the level of decay from sitting in the elements for years, such as the rotted trunk floor, nose cone, etc?

I would think as sad as it would be for him to watch his cars slowly rotting away in his backyard , it must be quite satisfying for him to actually get to see them restored, knowing they both went to a good home...

you ARE exactly right... even then, he (original owner) made the comment of how he didnt realize how bad they had gotten in the past few years, (once the tops go... its almost impossible to keep them dry.)...like I said, the original owner is Happy to see them in their new home and coming back to life.

Great thread.  congratulations on your projects.  The interior shot shows two under dash indicator lights.  Is one for Deluxe seat belts?  You don't see that very often.

This thread is too cool! Great saga! And I like the way you are rolling it out. A lot of people "can't wait to see it done"  I am more interested in seeing pictures of the process than the finished product, so I hope you got lots of them. I like to see the final result too, but the journey is the better part of the story. Congratulations to you and your son, it pays to be polite and respectful of others even though you may sometimes want to "dope slap" them for their actions. Your patience and manners paid off in this case and it sounds like the previous owner turns out to be a nice guy that others considered a jerk for not being open to selling, but I guess I can understand to a point, being badgered continually and people always telling you they aren't worth that much.  I would have a hard time giving up my "children" to just anybody with a bunch of cash, I'd want to be sure they were going to a loving caring family and I would be the one making the decision when I was ready, not being forced into it. Again, congrats to you. I'm looking forward to...... "The rest of the story"

Thanks for sharing.
