Anyone know a good welder in the nyc area? Have a small job but it needs to be done correctly. Basically have a set of coilovers for my bmw, I need to cut the origional strut housing leaving -50mm stub remaining, coilovers slide over that and than get welded to the knuckle, very simple task but th knuckle is cast so I need to find someone wo can weld it correctly and safe. Worst case ill send it to the guys doing up the charger in MA but would be nice to find someone local.

Thanks!

Frank,

Here is the name of the guy that Hal Drugac in Boonton, NJ. 973-886-6090 or 201-334-7411.   I know he travels also so that is a plus on your side.  When you call him, tell him that you were referred by Bob and Brian Kapral who used to live in Boonton.

Thanks cdawg!

They do good bodywork, but im looking for a chassis guy/fabricator to do this, specifically someone who knows how to weld cast, i know no one is going to warranty this nor is going to give me a bill that i was even there...thats fine, they dont want the responsibility and its understandable, but i need to make sure whoever does it knows how to do good work. Dosnt even need to be a car guy, just a good welder.

Heres a good picture of whats done, also there is 50mm of old strut tube that presses into that new tube, than the new tube is welded to the knuckle...before people jump on me saying its unsafe...the FACTORY strut tube is welded to the knuckle, so as far as safety, with a good weld its absolutely fine.

Frank,

The guy I told you about, Hal, welded the cast iron bell housing for me on my charger when I cracked it.  It held up fine till I found a new bellhousing that was no cracked to replace it with.
